Carlotta Manson (Jeanette MacDonald) is an opera diva. Arriving home one night, she finds a burglar (Reginald Denny) who is about to clean her out. But then it turns out that the would-be burglar is her biggest fan! And not only that, but he sings! So, she offers to get him a job in the chorus with the opera company where she is performing. The opera management is not impressed, but they agree to put him on and give him lessons so he can work his way up the ranks. But things don't always go as planned...

Octobre Novembre Février Avril ... Aout Bulletin No. 57 – September 2003
EDITO
Dear friends, chères amis, kia ora, salut, g’day Members in France are no doubt busy coping with “la rentrée” (the grand return to school, university and working life, after a blistering summer), while those in NZ are probably out in the paddocks helping with spring lambing before heading off to footy practice… After all, what else would people do at this time of the year in a tiny rugby-mad country devoted to sustaining its famous 60 million-strong mutton population? [This favourite scoop of statistical trifle seems to me to form the basis of a disproportionate number of opening paragraphs of articles regarding NZ which one can find from time to time in the French press. To be fair, leaving aside material concerning certain yachting nightmares, the impression of NZ projected in what one might read here is overwhelmingly and gratifyingly positive]. With the aforementioned frenzy of return to the real world, we are not sufficiently advanced in our planning to announce much in the way of events beyond the very short term. Suffice to say at this point that the Association is supporting several upcoming events which should have the effect of counter-balancing this unfair stereotype of NZ as a nation of swandri-wearing shepherds and haka-performing rugby players. Read on and you will see that we are pleased to announce separate concerts this week by a New Zealand soprano, Gina Sanders, and Jeffrey Grice, the New Zealand pianist who is a long-time resident of Paris. Please note that both events request registration of sorts in advance.

All The World's A Stage - From Paris to Gore
Ex-pat pianist Jeffrey Grice ’s skillful digits have taken him to concert halls all over the world, earned him recognition from the French Government and seen him release numerous recordings – and now they bring him to six New Zealand towns. Music lovers in Gore, Blenheim, Waikanae, Rotorua, Te Awamutu and Whakatane have the opportunity to hear the Paris-based, Christchurch-born Grice when he tours for Chamber Music New Zealand from Monday 31st March to Saturday 12th April. Grice will demonstrate what 'Music In New Zealand' magazine describes as his "fiery and imaginative pianism" with a characteristically versatile programme that includes Schubert, Liszt, Szymanowski, Chopin and a work especially composed for him by New Zealander Nigel Keay. Leaving New Zealand in 1976 after graduating in languages and music from Auckland University, Grice continued his piano studies in Paris, obtaining the Licence de Concert de l'Ecole Normale Supérieure de Musique qualification.
