Pianist GILA GOLDSTEIN , a native of Israel who resides in New York City has emerged as an important young artist on the concert stage today. Ms. Goldstein, who is known as a very versatile musician has captivated audiences around the world with her unique artistry, inspiring personality and soulful interpretations. Often recognized as well for offering bold renditions to the traditional classical repertoire, her playing was perceived as profound, electrifying and sensual. Her first CD, Piano Works by Paul Ben-Haim, (Israel's leading composer, d. 1984) was released on June 2001 on the label Centaur. The CD has received raving reviews at the American Record Guide and Piano Journal London among other publications. This CD marks a significant addition to the few commercial CDs of Israeli classical music, in particular piano music, and therefore meaningful for the understanding of this genre and for increasing its international recognition. It is also an important contribution to the discography of 20th century piano literature in general. Click the record sleeve

Friday May 7, 2004 Israeli-born pianist promises ‘music from heart’ in S.F. concert by joe eskenazi
staff writer When the upright piano arrived at Gila Goldstein’s Tel Aviv home, it was supposed to be for her 9-year-old sister. But it was 4-year-old Gila who was playing songs off the radio by ear within a week. In the 35 years since, Goldstein’s audiences have grown from delighted fellow kindergarteners to concert audiences worldwide. The lauded pianist will make just her second trip to San Francisco on Sunday, May 16, when she plays a solo recital of Bach, Chopin, Brahms and the Israeli composer Paul Ben-Haim at the Old First Church on Sacramento Street. It is a program chock full of a few of Goldstein’s favorite things. “I basically choose what I love,” said the pianist in a phone interview from her New York home, where she has lived ever since her graduation from the Rubin Academy of Music at Tel Aviv University in the late 1980s. “I open almost every recital with Bach. Chopin is just gorgeous music, I don’t know how else to describe it. It speaks to my heart. Music, it must speak to my heart. It’s very difficult to describe what music does to me.”

Kassam rockets land in its territory...and Sharon's government is helpless in the face of this embarrassing reality." The paper adds, "The Kassams falling on Sderot are just a very small example of what all southern cities will suffer if Sharon's disengagement plan is implemented."
