Chopin's Funeral from Knopf Price: Customer Review: As I consider Ferderick Chopin to be my favorite composer, I was struck by the idea of this book - a biography that greatly focuses on Chopin's later years. Frederic Francois Chopin (1810 - 1849)
F rederic Chopin was born in 1810, in Zelazowa-Wola, a town near Warsaw, Poland. Publicly performing on the piano at the age of eight, Chopin began to compose soon afterward. With his lyrical, often melancholy, compositions, he brought romantic piano music to unprecedented heights of expressiveness. A prodigy as a pianist and a composer, he began performing at aristocratic salons in Warsaw, and in 1826 he began full-time studies at the Warsaw Conservatory. After concert appearances in Vienna and Munich, he settled in Paris, where he gave his first concert in 1831. Although he remained always devoted to Polish culture and artists, he never returned to his homeland. In Paris he became closely associated with the principal composers, artists, and literary figures of his time. He was a virtuoso interpreter of his own works, but his dislike of playing in public made him prefer teaching and composing to the concert stage. In 1836, Liszt introduced him to Mme Dudevant, better known by her pen name George Sand, with whom he spent the winter of 1838–39 in Majorca; there, despite worsening pulmonary illness, he wrote his 24 preludes, which are counted among his finest compositions. The stormy affair with the novelist lasted until 1847, by which time Chopin's illness had developed into tuberculosis. He made a last concert tour through Great Britain in 1848. Chopin established the piano as a solo instrument free from choral or orchestral influence. Even in the piano concertos in E Minor (1833) and in F Minor (1836), the orchestra is completely dominated by the piano.

and the second from Op.55). Mozart was a favourite, Beethoven less so. His attitude towards his contemporaries was ambiguous at best. He was cool towards Schumann, never reciprocating the latter’s enthusiasm for his own music. And his admiration for Liszt was tinged with jealousy. But perhaps the most important aspects of his personality were his insecurity and his indecisiveness (many letters to his parents in which he expresses his hesitation between going back to Poland to fight alongside his countrymen or staying in his new adopted home attest to this trait). This "folie du doute," his inability to make up his mind, actually permeates many of his works and is even reflected in his harmonic language, making him by far one of the most original harmonists of his time. The second Prelude Op.28 in A minor

Frederic Chopin, An Iron Will In September 1831, at the end of an exhausting journey through war-torn Europe, a 21-year-old Polish pianist arrived in Paris. His name, Frederic Chopin, would soon become known to the entire city, and before long would be celebrated wherever music was heard, but the young man started out with little more than his talent, a few letters of recommendation, and an iron will to succeed. Indeed, for years people assumed there was some sort of cosmic connection between Chopin's determination to make a name for himself and the fact that he had been born in the village outside Warsaw of Zelazowa Wola, whose name was sometimes translated as "Iron Will." In fact, Zelazowa Wola was plain old "Ironville."

Chateau De Bouesse: History and Guestbook
Chateau De Bouesse - 36570 Bouesse - France
Joan of Arc
T he legendary French military leader, Joan of Arc, used the Chateau de Bouesse as an outpost when she would visit the builder, and her top commander, Raoul de Beaucourt.
Frederic Chopin
I t is said that Chopin had composed many popular classical music and notes while staying at the Chateau de Bouesse. It is rumored that Ms. Dupin ( George Sand below ) would check into the hotel as a man, to be with Chopin, a famous pianist-composer, who had also stayed at the Chateau. Each year, a competition is held in honor of Chopin and his classical music to discover new stars among a very large group of promising music composers.
George Sand
G eorge Sand (a famous French novelist of the early 19th century) was also a visitor to the Chateau. George Sand was really an alias for a woman by the name of Aurore Dupin, the friend and mistress of the infamous Chopin. Since it was deemed 'inappropriate' for Mme. Dupin and M. Chopin to be in contact, Aurore Dupin would check into the Chateau under the guise of a man, George Sand. This would allow the two lovers to maintain a veil of friendship, while allowing them to pursue their forbidden love. The name would also provide a vessel for Mme. Dupin to achieve the male permissive success she so desired.
Ghostly Visitors
N ot fulfilled by satisfying the needs of visitors from this world, it seems that the Chateau has been attracting visitors from 'another' world. Having cut into the walls to make space for the added bathrooms, the owner of the castle thinks that they may have liberated some poor spirit of times gone by.
