Customer Review:
It's quite unbelievable that so many 'serious' music listeners like this Beethoven Sonatas set. Here we have Daniel Barenboim, a very mediocre pianist without any sense of poetry, architecture and drama, turning in some of the most superficial and superfluous Beethoven recordings I've heard so far.... more info Customer Rating: Click here for more information Mozart:The Complete Piano Sonatas and Variations by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Price: Customer Review: Barenboim playing Mozart has his critics, who say he's "too Beethovian" when performing Mozart's piano sonatas and piano concertos. I disagree; I love his style. Others might not. My only complaint with this 8 CD set is that the advertised piano sonatas occupy the first 5 CDs; the last three are...

Bruce Adolphe's "name that composer" piano quiz Daniel Barenboim "After the performance, there may be a hundred different opinions about how every phrase should go, or should have gone. But at the moment of making the music, it is absolutely imperative that everybody on the stage really wants to hear the same thing. And then you can really make music."
PT Host Fred Child recently caught up with conductor Daniel Barenboim on the stage of Chicago's Orchestra Hall at the end of a recording session with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. On his approach to music making, Barenboim explained, "Everything else that is dependent on outside factors is not real music making. If you depend on being able to see the stick, and if the conductor depends only on that... No, it has to be totally organic way of seeing the music and seeing how the sound is produced."

Daniel Barenboim Daniel Barenboim was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1942. He spent the first ten years of his life there until moving to Israel with his family. His mother was his first piano teacher, and his father, who was his only piano teacher up to that moment, continued to teach him until his international breakthrough as a pianist. Daniel Barenboim made his first public appearance as a pianist at the age of 7 in Buenos Aires. Shortly thereafter, he assisted conducting classes with Igor Markevich in Salzburg and studied harmony and composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. While still in Argentina, both Artur Rubinstein and Adolf Busch made a huge impression on the young Barenboim. Later, Edwin Fischer and Wilhelm Furtwängler, whom he met in Salzburg, influenced the young artist considerably in his musical development. After having heard him play in 1954, Furtwängler wrote about him: "Daniel Barenboim is a phenomenon". When he was 10 years old, Daniel Barenboim gave his international début as a pianist in Vienna and Rome (1952), and then in Paris (1955) as the soloist of the Societé des Concerts du Conservatiore under the baton of André Cluytens. He then played in London in 1956 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Josef Krips, and finally appeared in New York in 1957, where, only 15 years old, he played with Leopold Stokowski. A little later he played the Berg Chamber Concerto and the Bartók Piano Concerto with Pierre Boulez in Paris and Berlin. From that time on, he regularly toured Europe, the U.S.A. and South America as well as Australia and the Far East.

Titel Artikelnr.

Israeli Pianist Barenboim Plays West Bank
[Associated Press]
Israeli musician Daniel Barenboim received a rapturous reception when he brought a program of Beethoven and Brahms - and a message of Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation - to this West Bank town on Saturday. The renowned pianist and conductor, a longtime critic of Israeli policy toward the Palestinians, played a packed and sweltering auditorium at a Ramallah school, the scene of a visit last year that angered some Israelis. "I realize this isn't a normal concert for you. It isn't a normal concert for me either," Barenboim told the audience. Barenboim, 60, an Argentine-born Jew who grew up in Israel, received three standing ovations from an audience of about 350 Palestinians and a smattering of international diplomats. He played a program of Beethoven sonatas, including a duet of the "Moonlight Sonata" with 26-year-old Palestinian pianist Salim Abboud, and performed some Brahms with his son Michael, 17. Palestinian lawmaker Hanan Ashrawi, who was in the audience, said the concert was "a gift to the Palestinian people."
