On 1st July 2004 the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft, a joint NASA, European Space Agency [ESA] and Italian Space Agency [AI] mission, will enter Saturn's orbit after a 7 year journey which has taken it past Venus (twice), Earth and Jupiter. De Broglie wavelength of a non-local four-photon state

(Nature 429, 158-161, 2004)

by Philip Walther, Jian-Wei Pan, Markus Aspelmeyer, Rupert Ursin, Sara Gasparoni, Anton Zeilinger We demonstrate the generation of four-photon entangled states and their subsequent utilization in pure four-particle interferometry. The observed interference fringes confirm the theoretical expectation that the de-Broglie wavelength of a four-photon state is one fourth of a single photon. This overcomes state-of-the-art two-particle interferometry and opens new possibilities in quantum metrology and in quantum imaging applications. Fourier Transforms in Quantum Physics
Fourier transforms are used in many branches of physics and engineering to relate functions described in terms of conjugate variables. These variables are those such as wavevector and position, or frequency and time, which are associated with waves and particles respectively and thereby obey a version of the uncertainty principle. In quantum physics these relations are extended to position and momentum, or energy and time, via the introduction of Planck's constant h in p = (h/2 p) k and E = h n The first search of the web that we did under (Fourier + transform) gave 8358 entries, more than we really need for this course....     Holism and Nonseparability in Physics
    It has sometimes been suggested that quantum phenomena exhibit a characteristic holism or nonseparability, and that this distinguishes quantum from classical physics. One puzzling quantum phenomenon arises when one performs measurements of spin or polarization on certain separated quantum systems. The results of these measurements exhibit patterns of statistical correlation that resist traditional causal explanation. Some have held that it is possible to understand these patterns as instances or consequences of quantum holism or nonseparability. Just what holism and nonseparability are supposed to be has not always been made clear, though, and each of these notions has been understood in different ways. Moreover, while some have taken holism and nonseparability to come to the same thing, others have thought it important to distinguish the two. Any evaluation of the significance of quantum holism and/or nonseparability must rest on a careful analysis of these notions.

  • I've noted the quantum structure of the Cooper-Pairing of Negativity and Positivity in the human mind elsewhere in the QUFD Formulation , so I will only briefly review the pertinent facts here. What I want to delve into here in more detail are the quantum dynamics, the facts and realities of exactly what transpires in the quantum incorporeal realms when Negativity is influencing the functioning of the human mind.
  • First of all though, to review the Cooper-Pairing structure of the human mind. Cooper-Pairing is the quantum mechanical term used to describe the 'sandwiching', or sandwich effect, that actually constitutes the present Immature configuration of the nominal current human mind.     No doubt the secular humanists among you are already pissed off by this article, just because of its placement under the header of religion. But what other classification is possible for a set of beliefs that can never be verified by direct observation? In which direct observation automatically negates the validity of the observation? In which invisible forces run counter to Newton's laws of thermodynamics, allowing for everything from time travel to bilocation to teleportation to free energy (also known as zero-point extraction)? OK, OK, OK. It's probably unfair to classify quantum physics as religion. (Probably not, but let's just pretend it is to appease the secular humanists. Wink, wink.) The 20th Century played host to the most amazing set of discoveries and reversals in the history of science. What was once thought to be a world of too, too solid flesh instead melted into a miasma of multiple possibilities, solidified probabilities and verifiable impossibilities. 17th century scientist Isaac Newton had defined a world view of strictly verifiable laws, everything in its place and most things definable by a series of junior high school-level math equations. Despite the fact that he spent the better part of his life obsessed with the now completely discredited "science" of alchemy, Newton defined the parameters of existence for virtually every Western scientist for 200 years.

This is because of the impending development of quantum computers and quantum information technology arising from 100 years of quantum theory, as well as a confluence of developments during those same 100 years since the hallmark works of Ramon-y-Cajal (neuroscience), William James (psychology) and Meyer and Overton (mechanism of anesthesia). The idea that quantum theory is relevant to understanding the relation of mind and matter and even the nature of consciousness has persisted (regardless of heavy criticism) since the work of the "founding fathers" of quantum theory - Bohr, SchrM-vdinger, Pauli etc. to the contemporary approaches to be covered in this course. One ought to remember at the outset that this issue is not to be solved by simply taking whatever quantum theory says about the physical world and relating that to whatever philosophers, psychologists, neuroscientists etc say about consciousness and the brain.
