About Whale-Watching-Web
By watching the whales you can prolong the life of cetaceans as a species . This may be the last chance before they say goodbye for this Planet
1. Whale watching world-wide
Whale watching as a commercial activity began in 1955 in NorthAmerica along the southern California coast. Today, whale watchingis carried on in the waters of some 40 countries, plus Antarctica. All the large whale species and many dolphins and porpoises canbe seen regularly on a wide range of tours, lasting from an hourto two weeks. Whale watching is a non-consumptive use of whaleswith economic, recreational, educational and scientific dimensions. The economic benefits occur in areas where whale watching hasquickly become a significant aspect of a local tourism economy. If prospective tour operators examine areas where whale-watchingindustries have matured and learn from their experiences, whalewatching world-wide can continue to grow with maximum benefitsaccruing to local communities, companies, scientists, conservationsocieties, whale watchers and, ultimately, the whales themselves.(Cit:Hoyt E.1992. "Whale watching around the world"Int. whalewatching bulletin #7)

So, I decided to look elsewhere...well, Mars to be specific. NASA/JPL has released 1/128 degree datasets of the majority of the planet. The data was collected by the laser altimeter (MOLA) aboard the MGS probe and is available in a variety of formats and resolutions. As you have probably guessed by now, I downloaded several gigabytes of data and began sifting through it while researching the various flavors of CDF formats that the data is stored in. After much research, I decided upon using a set of pre-processing tools, namely GMT and 3DEM to prepare the data for static rendering and for generating test datasets for the new VSE terrain features. At any rate, I used 3DEM to select and export specific chunks of the terrain in Terragen .ter format. Once converted, I loaded them into Terragen and performed an assortment of tweaks such as adding water where appropriate, adjusting water transparency, placing and adjusting the camera, etc.

Objectives of the Center for Theoretical AMO Physics
This Center was formed in 1989 with funding from the National Science Foundation , until funding expired in 1999. While in existence, it provided a national resource for the Theoretical Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics Community, through the mechanisms listed below. This page is being maintained at a minimal level, nevertheless, because of possible continuing interest in some of the online talks that can be accessed below. Nevertheless, it should be noted that we are no longer sponsoring workshops, and the Condon Postdoctoral Fellowship is no longer being awarded.
  • CTAMOP sponsored workshops in critical areas of Theoretical AMO Physics. These workshops were intended to focus on current problem areas in the field and to enhance the theoretical study of Experimental AMO Physics problems of current interest. CTAMOP funds the research of a faculty member in the Physics Department at the University of Colorado-Boulder , in the general area of Theoretical AMO Physics.
