The bulk of the Nuclear technology and Physics activities at Kjeller are directly related to the JEEP II research reactor, a national laboratory for basic and applied research. Basic research in physics, irradiation technology and the production of radioactive isotopes for medical purposes all rely on neutron beams from JEEP II.
Petroleum Technology
IFE's goal for petroleum activities is to contribute to the profitable, safe and environment-friendly utilisation of Norway's petroleum resources. The main markets are oil companies, systems and consultancy companies, the supply industry and the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate.

The Wonders of Physics
In the matter of physics, the first lessons should contain nothing but what is experimental and interesting to see. A pretty experiment is in itself often more valuable than twenty formulae extracted from our minds. Albert Einstein
General Description
Never has there been a time when an understanding of science has been more important to the well-being of individuals and to the nation than the present. Yet many recent studies have documented a lack of interest in science and hence a decline in science literacy in the United States. To address this problem, the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1984 began a program called The Wonders of Physics aimed at generating interest in physics among people of all ages and backgrounds. The heart of the program is a fast-paced presentation of physics demonstrations carefully chosen to be entertaining as well as educational. The show has been presented by Professor Clint Sprott on the Madison campus over 150 times to a total audience of about 50,000. In addition a smaller traveling show has been developed and presented by physics graduate students and staff several hundred times to audiences of all ages throughout Wisconsin and the nation. A variety of educational tools and materials have been developed including printed handouts, videotapes, and computer software.

Welcome to Fizteh, one of the most renowned educational institutions in Russia! Ever increasing speed of scientific research in the XX century has profoundly changed the standards of higher education in natural science. New, rapidly emerging areas of research demanded from the new generation of the scientists fundamental knowledge in Physics, many areas of Applied Mathematics and the hands-on experience in the real applied research even before they graduate. Therefore, a group of the most prominent Soviet scientists proposed to create an educational institution of a new kind. This proposal received the seal of approval from Joseph Stalin himself in 1946 and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology was born.

86. Andrei Sakharov: Soviet Physics, Nuclear Weapons And Human Rights
A biography of Andrei Sakharov and his contributions to Soviet nuclear weapons research, nuclear fusion, cosmology, human rights, and world peace. Includes a bibliography and links to related sites.

Text Version
ndrei Sakharov (1921-1989) was a Soviet physicist who became, in the words of the Nobel Peace Committee, a spokesman for the conscience of mankind . He was fascinated by fundamental physics and cosmology, but first he spent two decades designing nuclear weapons. He came to be regarded as the father of the Soviet hydrogen bomb, contributing perhaps more than anyone else to the military might of the USSR. But gradually Sakharov became one of the regime’s most courageous critics, a defender of human rights and democracy. He could not be silenced, and helped bring down one of history’s most powerful dictatorships. This exhibit tells about Sakharov’s extraordinary life. Time Travel and Modern Physics
Time travel has been a staple of science fiction. With the advent of general relativity it has been entertained by serious physicists. But, especially in the philosophy literature, there have been arguments that time travel is inherently paradoxical. The most famous paradox is the grandfather paradox: you travel back in time and kill your grandfather, thereby preventing your own existence. To avoid inconsistency some circumstance will have to occur which makes you fail in this attempt to kill your grandfather. Doesn't this require some implausible constraint on otherwise unrelated circumstances? We examine such worries in the context of modern physics.

The Astrophysics Data System (ADS) is a NASA-funded project which maintains four bibliographic databases containing more than 3.9 million records: Astronomy and Astrophysics, Instrumentation, Physics and Geophysics, and preprints in Astronomy. The main body of data in the ADS consists of bibliographic records, which are searchable through our Abstract Service query forms , and full-text scans of much of the astronomical literature which can be browsed though our Browse interface
For more information, please read our page detailing the Terms and Conditions regulating the use of our resources.
In addition to its databases, the ADS provides access and pointers to a wealth of external resources, including electronic articles, data catalogs and archives. We currently have links to over 4.0 million records maintained by our collaborators.
The importance of ADS's role in supporting the scientific community has been recognized by societies and individuals . If you wish to acknowledge us in a publication, kindly use a phrase such as the following:
