145. Dr. Jürg Schefer, CH-5304 Endingen , Switzerland (Curriculum Vitae)
condensed matter research on optical data storage materials and basic research on magnetic properties at the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering at ETHZ PSI, Switzerland. Single crystal neutron diffraction at PSI.
http://www.mysunrise.ch/users/monika.held/held/schefer-jurg.htm
Research Interests:
My first focus is developing "intelligent" materials . Presently, I investigate the structures of optical materials usable for data storage as well as for optical computing. An example is sodiumnitroprusside, showing metastable states. Presently I switch to oxides such as LiNbO3: This material is already used in demonstration units, but has too many problems for industrial application. We want to optimize these materials by understanding e.g. the polaron interactions.
Earlier materials investigated were metal hydrides, now used for example in your mobile phone as well as biological systems. Beside this main focus, I work on magnetism , e.g. soliton lattices in coppermetaborate. Such studies, you may call it a scientific "hobby", will help to understand magnetism in the context of many other investigations world-wide.
Since November 2003, I am the head of the neutron diffraction group , operating three neutron diffractometers
at SINQ. My direct responsibility is a single crystal diffractometer. Publications Academic Career Education Additonal Education Memberships Curriculum Vitae (pdf) Mail/Phone/FAX NUM Progress Reports Manuals (TriCS, Diffraction)
