About us
The members of the Department of Astrophysics conduct research programs in observational, theoretical, and computational astrophysics. We also provide curatorial support for the Frederick Phineas and Sandra Priest Rose Center for Earth and Space , giving scientific voice to the Dorothy Cullman Hall of the Universe , the Astrobulletin , and the Hayden Planetarium Our department has close ties to Columbia University's Department of Astronomy and Barnard College's Department of Physics and Astronomy . Graduate students at Columbia have the opportunity to conduct their research here at the AMNH Astrophysics Department. We also have a long-standing connection with the Department of Astrophysical Sciences at Princeton University

The Space Science Division at NASA Ames Research Center is dedicated to research in astrophysics, exobiology, advanced life support technologies, and planetary science. These research programs are structured around Astrobiology (the study of life in the universe and the chemical and physical forces and adaptions that influence life's origin, evolution, and destiny), and address some of the most fundamental questions pursued by science.
These questions examine the origin of life and our place in the universe. Ames is recognized as a world leader in Astrobiology. In pursuing our mission in Astrobiology, Space Science Division scientists perform pioneering basic research and technology development.
