    1. Marx's Life and Works
The Economic and Philosophical Manuscripts The German Ideology , co-written with Engels, in 1845, was also unpublished but this is where we see Marx beginning to develop his theory of history. The Communist Manifesto is perhaps Marx's most widely read work, even if it is not the best guide to his thought. This was again jointly written with Engels and published with a great sense of excitement in 1848 as Marx returned to Germany from exile to take part in the revolution of 1848. With the failure of the revolution Marx moved to London where he remained for the rest of his life. He now concentrated on the study of economics, producing, in 1859, his Contribution to a Critique of Political Economy Capital Volume 1 , published in 1867, although Volume 3 , edited by Engels, and published posthumously in 1894, contains much of interest. Finally the late pamphlet

Karl Marx
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Karl Heinrich Marx May 5 March 14 ) was an influential German political philosopher and social theorist . Early life
Karl Marx was born into a progressive Jewish family in Trier Prussia (now a part of Germany ). His father Herschel, descending from a long line of rabbis, was a lawyer; Herschel´s brother Samuel was - like many of his ancestors - chief rabbi of Trier. As advancement opportunities for Jews were rather limited in early 19th century Prussia and they were not extremely religious, Herschel decided to change his name to Heinrich and convert the family to the Prussian state religion of Lutheranism , after which his legal career prospered. The Marx family was very liberal and the Marx household hosted many visiting intellectuals and artists through Karl's early life.

Karl Marx , the son of Hirschel and Henrietta Marx, was born in Trier, Germany , in 1818. Hirschel Marx was a lawyer and to escape anti-Semitism decided to abandon his Jewish faith when Karl was a child. Although the majority of people living in Trier were Catholics, Marx decided to become a Protestant. He also changed his name from Hirschel to Heinrich.
After schooling in Trier (1830-35), Marx entered Bonn University to study law. At university he spent much of his time socialising and running up large debts. His father was horrified when he discovered that Karl had been wounded in a duel. Heinrich Marx agreed to pay off his son's debts but insisted that he moved to the more sedate Berlin University.
The move to Berlin resulted in a change in Marx and for the next few years he worked hard at his studies. Marx came under the influence of one of his lecturers, Bruno Bauer, whose atheism and radical political opinions got him into trouble with the authorities. Bauer introduced Marx to the writings of G. W. F. Hegel, who had been the professor of philosophy at Berlin until his death in 1831.

Marx, Karl Political philosopher
German philosopher Karl Marx, perhaps more than any individual, had the greatest influence on the political situation of the 20th century. The founder of communism, his revolutionary theory
blended history, economics, and politics, and proposed the overthrow of capitalism and its substitution by a "dictatorship" of the masses.
Although he was trained in law, philosophy, history, and political economy, Marx spent much of his impoverished working life as a journalist. His expulsion from several European countries was a direct consequence of his radical journalistic style explicitly criticizing governments. He settled in London where he published the first volume of "Das Kapital" in 1867. In later life, Marx enjoyed some financial security thanks to an annuity from Friedrich Engels, his lifelong friend with whom he developed the Marxist theory.
Actually communism was not a significant movement during his lifetime. In fact, it was not until Lenin adapted Marx's themes to clarify the ideals of the Bolshevik Revolution that communism emerged.

Karl Marx and Frederick Engels
Manifesto
of the Communist Party
Bourgeois and Proletarians Proletarians and Communists Socialist and Communist Literature Position of the Communists in relation to the various existing opposition parties ... Notes on the Manifesto and translations of it A spectre is haunting Europe the spectre of communism. All the powers of old Europe have entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this spectre: Pope and Tsar, Metternich and Guizot, French Radicals and German police-spies. Where is the party in opposition that has not been decried as communistic by its opponents in power? Where is the opposition that has not hurled back the branding reproach of communism, against the more advanced opposition parties, as well as against its reactionary adversaries? Two things result from this fact: I. Communism is already acknowledged by all European powers to be itself a power. II. It is high time that Communists should openly, in the face of the whole world, publish their views, their aims, their tendencies, and meet this nursery tale of the spectre of communism with a manifesto of the party itself. To this end, Communists of various nationalities have assembled in London and sketched the following manifesto, to be published in the English, French, German, Italian, Flemish and Danish languages.

Karl Marx was born and educated in Prussia, where he fell under the influence of Ludwig Feuerbach and other radical Hegelians. Although he shared Hegel 's belief in dialectical structure and historical inevitability, Marx held that the foundations of reality lay in the material base Rheinische Zeitung . Although he also attempted to earn a living as a journalist in Paris and Brussels, Marx's participation in unpopular political movements made it difficult to support his growing family. He finally settled in London in 1849, where he lived in poverty while studying and developing his economic and political theories. Above all else, Marx believed that philosophy ought to be employed in practice to change the world. The core of Marx's economic analysis found early expression in the Economic and Political Manuscripts of 1844 ) (1844). There, Marx argued that the conditions of modern industrial societies invariably result in the estrangement (or alienation ) of workers from their own labor. In his review of a Bruno Baier book
