Karl Jaspers and the Paradigm Jaspers regards the totality of being as the Encompassing . He distinguishes the two realms of the Encompassing ; the first is Da-sein, consciousness general and Existenz , and the second is the transcendent as God. The philosophy of Jaspers aims to understand this invisible Encompassing through cipher reading. For Jaspers, Reason is the ligament of all the states of the Encompassing within us. If this is true, so is the light to the Encompassing . Light in the Paradigm of Christ, penetrating all the layers of our being and the transcendent, corresponds to this Reason . As the principle of life, light penetrates itself from the archaic impulses to the Reason as such. Jaspers divides the languages of the cipher into three different epistemological levels. In other words, there are three kinds of ciphers depicting the transcendent so that the invisible may become visible. The first language relates to the direct experience of the transcendent . It is an individual's experience of recognition of the transcendent in which the Existenz grasps the totality of life connected to the absolute consciousness . Biography Karl Jaspers (pronounced “Yaspers”) was born 23 February 1883 in Oldenburg to Carl William and Henriette Jaspers, a respected family within the community. Carl was a lawyer, the local sheriff for a time, and a bank director. Jaspers did well in secondary school, which he atttended from 1892–1901. At graduation he had been accepted to the University of Freiburg law school. About this time, Jaspers was diagnosed with heart problems. Doctors told Jaspers to avoid strenuous activity. After studying law in Freiburg and Munich for three terms, Jaspers moved to Berlin and began to pursure a medical degree. Jaspers left Berlin for the University of Goettingen, where he studied from 1903 to 1906. Jaspers took the medical exams in 1908.

The Course of my Development On February 23, 1883 I was born in Oldenburg, a son of Karl Jaspers, the former sheriff and later bank director, and bis wife Henriette, nee Tantzen. I passed a well-guarded childhood in the company of my brothers and sisters, either in the country with my grandparents or at the seaside, sheltered by loved and revered parents, led by the authority of my father, brought up with a regard for truth and loyalty, for achievement and reliability, yet without church religion (except for the scanty formalities of the Protestant confession). I attended the high school of my home town, and from 1901 the University. My path was not the normal one of professors of philosophy. I did not intend to become a doctor of philosophy by studying philosophy (I am in fact a doctor of medicine) nor did L by any means, intend originally to qualify for a professorship by a dissertation on philosophy. To decide to become a philosopher seemed as foolish to me as to decide to become a poet. Since my schooldays, however, I was guided by philosophical questions. Philosophy seemed to me the supreme, even the sole, concern of man. Yet a certain awe kept me from making it my profession. Instead I felt that I should look for my vocation in practical life. At first I chose the study of law with the intention of becoming an attorney. At the same time I attended classes in philosophy. That proved disappointing. The lectures offered nothing of what I sought in philosophy: neither the fundamental experiences of Being, nor guidance for inner action or self-improvement, but rather, questionable opinions making claim to scientific validity. The study of law left me unsatisfied, because I did not know the aspects of life which it serves. I perceived only the intricate mental juggling with fictions that did not interest me. Wegen seiner Krankheit beginnt er in Berlin ein Medizinstudium. Medizinische Promotion über "Heimweh und Verbrechen". Beginn der Freundschaft mit dem Soziologen Max Weber Heirat mit der Nervenpflegerin Gertrud Mayer. Nach intensiver Beschäftigung mit der Philosophie Edmund Husserls (1858-1938) und Wilhelm Diltheys (1833-1911) veröffentlicht Jaspers seine Habilitationsschrift "Allgemeine Psychopathologie", die einen methodischen Überblick bietet. In seinem zweiten großen Werk "Psychologie der Weltanschauungen" beschreibt er die Aufgabenfelder der Philosophie angesichts der Wissenschaften. Beginn Freundschaft mit Martin Heidegger Hannah Arendt u.a. A l'époque de la dictature hitlérienne, sa vie et son oeuvre sont mises en danger. En 1937, il est mis à la retraite d'office. En 1938, il est frappé d'une interdiction de publier. Februar 1883 in Oldenburg Er begründete mit dem Terminus "Phänomenologie" seinen Ruf als Arzt und mit der geisteswissenschaftlich orientierten "Psychopathologie" eine neue Grundlegung der Psychiatrie. Doch den meisten ist Jaspers als Begründer der deutschen "Existenzphilosophie" und als unnachgiebiger Kritiker der politischen Entwicklung der damals noch jungen Bundesrepublik Deutschland bekannt. So forderte er 1960 als Sühne für die Verbrechen des Nationalsozialismus die Anerkennung der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik und den Verzicht auf die Wiedervereinigung. Als dann einige Jahre später die Verjährung der Judenmorde und die Notstandsgesetze zur Debatte standen, schrieb er 1966 seinen berühmten Bestseller "Wohin treibt die Bundesrepublik?" Den Hang zum Philosophieren entdeckte der junge Jaspers beim Anblick der heimischen Nordsee. Das Meer war für ihn ein "Gleichnis von Freiheit und Transzendenz" - die Berge hingegen nahmen ihm "den Horizont". Später, als Vertreter der Existenzphilosophie, sah er eine unauflösliche Verbindung zwischen der Erfahrung der Existenz und dieser Transzendenz, das heißt des jenseits der Grenzen der menschlichen Erfahrung liegende Unbegreifliche, das in den Grenzsituationen von Schuld, Leiden oder Tod bewußt wird.
