Wikipedia
Chen Ning Franklin Yang pinyin : Yáng Zhènníng) (born September 22 ) is a Chinese American physicist , who worked on statistical mechanics and symmetry principles. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in at the age of 35, with Tsung-Dao Lee , for his investigations into the parity laws, a piece of basic research in the physics of elementary particles Born in Hefei Anhui China Yang studied elementary school in Beijing , and middle school first in Beijing, then in Kunming He received his Bachelor of Science . Two years later, he studied for his Master of Science degree with a full scholarship in Tsinghua University , at the time also in Kunming. On a Tsinghua University Fellowship in January , he first studied for Ph.D , then taught at the University of Chicago . Yang, Chen Ning, byname FRANK YANG (b. Sept. 22, 1922, Hofei, Anhwei, China), Chinese-born American theoretical physicist whose research with Tsung-Dao Lee showed that paritythe symmetry between physical phenomena occurring in right-handed and left-handed coordinate systemsis violated when elementary particles decay. Until this discovery it had been assumed by physicists that parity symmetry is as universal a law as the conservation of energy or electric charge. This and other studies in particle physics earned Yang and Lee the Nobel Prize for Physics for 1957. Life. Yang's father, Yang Ko-chuen (also known as Yang Wu-chih), was a professor of mathematics at Tsinghua University, near Peking. While still young, Yang read the autobiography of Benjamin Franklin and adopted "Franklin" as his first name. After graduation from the Southwest Associated University, in K'unming, he took his B.Sc. in 1942 and his M.S. in 1944. On a fellowship, he studied in the United States, enrolling at the University of Chicago in 1946. He took his Ph.D. in nuclear physics with Edward Teller and then remained in Chicago for a year as an assistant to Enrico Fermi, the physicist who was probably the most influential in Yang's scientific development. Lee had also come to Chicago on a fellowship, and the two men began the collaboration that led eventually to their Nobel Prize work on parity. In 1949 Yang went to the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, N.J., and became a professor there in 1955. He became a U.S. citizen in 1964.

Physics Yang, Chen Ning Yang, Chen Ning (September 22, 1922 - ; China) Chen Ning Yang is a Chinese-born American theoretical physicist who was a corecipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1957 along with Tsung-Dao Lee for their work in the law of parity conservation. Born in Hofei, Anhwei, China, Yang graduated from the Southwest Associated University then proceeded to obtain a B.Sc. which he did in 1942 and then his master's in 1944. In 1946, Yang was able to attend the University of Chicago and receive his Ph.D. in nuclear physics due to a fellowship. After completing his Ph.D under Edward Teller, Yang became an assistant to Enrico Fermi who wielded great influence in Yang's scientific development. It was while in Chicago that Yang began to work with Lee on the law of parity conservation. By 1953, it had come to the attention of both men that parity conservation had some flaws when a new meson (the K-meson) possessed decay modes of differing parity. As a result, Yang and Lee began to investigate further. Through research it was brought to light that no experimental evidence existed against parity nonconversation in work interactions. Experiments conducted by Yang and Lee proved the existence of parity violations as well as the fact that the symmetry that existed between the particle and the antiparticle otherwise known as the charge conjugation symmetry could in fact be broken by weak decays. In addition to his work on parity conservation and weak interactions, Yang's other interests included statistical mechanics which he worked on with a number of researchers including Lee and also research in the nature of elementary particle reactions at high energies. In 1954, Yang also worked on the gauge theory with Robert L. Mills.
