Vleck, John Hasbrouck Van
Zkoumal i spektra volných molekul, paramagnetismus a další jevy.

As a newcomer to fly fishing I had many questions about what gear I needed. This book provides the answers quickly. This book is well written by a seasoned veteran and it's a quick read. The quick guides to selecting the right gear allowed me to select a rod and reel that will provide versatility for several fish. This isn't the last book I'll read on fly fishing but it got me started in no time at all. Thanks John!

John Hasbrouck Van Vleck
American physicist and mathematician who shared the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1977 with Philip W. Anderson and Sir Nevill F. Mott. The prize honoured Van Vleck's contributions to the understanding of the behaviour of electrons in magnetic, noncrystalline solid materials.
Educated at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and at Harvard University, where he received his Ph.D. in 1922, Van Vleck joined the faculty of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 1924. He taught at Wisconsin from 1928 to 1934, and he then went to Harvard, where he eventually served as chairman of the physics department (1945-49), dean of engineering and applied physics (1951-57), and Hollis professor of mathematics and natural philosophy (1951-69). Van Vleck developed during the early 1930s the first fully articulated quantum mechanical theory of magnetism. Later he was a chief architect of the ligand field theory of molecular bonding. He contributed also to studies of the spectra of free molecules, of paramagnetic relaxation, and other topics. His publications include Quantum Principles and Line Spectra (1926) and The Theory of Electric and Magnetic Susceptibilities (1932).

American jurist and chief advocate of "sociological jurisprudence" who was first active as a botanist and educator. He followed his B.A. in botany with studies in law. Meanwhile, he served as director of the Nebraska state botanical survey (1892-1903), during which time he discovered a rare fungus, subsequently named Roscopoundia . Having been admitted to the Nebraska bar, Pound turned to the practice of law, and eventually became a leader in the reform of court administration in the United States. Ivan Vladimirovich Michurin

Born 27 Oct 1855; died 1935
Russian horticulturist, of little education but some skill in crossbreeding fruit trees to survive the winters of Central Russia. He earned the praise of the Soviet government by developing over 300 new types of fruit trees and berries. His theory of cross-breeding postulated the idea that acquired characteristics were inheritable. His private orchard at Koslov, became a state institution, and in 1932 the city known as Kozlov for four centuries became Michurinsk. When Mendelian genetics came under attack in the Soviet Union, Michurin's theories of hybridization became state doctrine amid much controversy. His ways were elaborated by Trofim D. The dual cascade in bounded and unbounded two-dimensional fluids
Around 1967, Kraichnan, Leith, and Batchelor (KLB) independently proposed the dual cascade theory, which is thought to describe turbulence in unbounded two-dimensional fluids. In a bounded domain, however, the upscale energy cascade they discussed will be halted at the lowest wavenumber (corresponding to the domain size). An upper bound on the ratio of the total enstrophy to total energy derived by Tran and Shepherd [ Physica D , 2002] establishes that the energy must be dissipated at scales larger than the forcing scale. This result is based on the assumption that the square root of the ratio of mean enstrophy to mean energy injection is spectrally localized to the forcing region. We investigate the conjecture that turbulence driven by a spectrally localized temporally white-noise random forcing satisfies this assumption. We also provide numerical evidence that energetic reflections at the lower spectral boundary may eventually lead to a large-scale k energy spectrum, in agreement with the large-scale
