Le was born "Phan Dinh Khai" in the Nam Ha province of Vietnam. In 1930, Le helped found the Indochinese Communist Party. French colonial forces imprisoned him from 1930 to 1936 and again from 1939 to 1944. In 1945, he joined the Viet Minh, the Communist-affiliated independence movement, and was their highest-ranking official in the south of Vietnam during the war for independence (which ended in 1954). He then joined the Politburo of the Vietnam Workers' Party, now the Communist Party of Vietnam. During this time, the Communists held only North Vietnam; Le led the Communist insurgents in South Vietnam until their victory in 1975. The United States joined this Vietnam War during the 1960s, but Le and United States Secretary of State Henry Kissinger negotiated a cease-fire in 1973, for which he and Kissinger were jointly awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize. Le, however, refused to accept the prize, on the grounds that his country was not yet at peace; fighting continued without the United States until the fall of Saigon in 1975. Le led the first Vietnamese forces in their invasion of Cambodia in 1978. He then left the military, but remained in the Politburo until 1986. Le died in Hanoi on October 13, 1990.

Le Duc Tho was born in Nam Ha province, Vietnam on 14th October, 1911. As a young man he became involved in radical politics and in 1930 helped establish the Indochinese Communist Party. He campaigned against French rule in Vietnam and was twice imprisoned for his political activities (1930-36 and 1939-44). In 1945 Le Duc Tho returned to Hanoi and joined with Ho Chi Minh and Vo Nguyen Giap in establishing the Vietnam Revolutionary League (Vietminh). Until 1954 he was Vietminh's leader in South Vietnam. A member of the Politburo of the Vietnam Workers' Party, he had responsibility for organizing the rebellion against the government of South Vietnam. Peace talks between representatives from United States, South Vietnam, North Vietnam and the NLF began in Paris in January, 1969. Le Duc Tho served as special adviser to the North Vietnamese delegation. He eventually became North Vietnamese leader in these talks.

Thesis topic
Design and control of efficient orderpicking process Promotor: Prof. dr M.B.M. de Koster, professor of Logistics/Operations Management Summary of the thesis project: In this age of e-commerce the logistics of internet business becomes more and more a greater challenge. Research results demonstrate that logistics lags in performance. One of the greatest problems that needs to be resolved is the switch-over from conventional, few large-orders operations, to many small-orders operations with short throughput times. The organization of storage and order picking processes plays a central role in these throughput times. This research sheds light on the following questions:
  • What are the circumstances under which batch picking is (dis)advantageous, as compared with picking by order?
