Moved to NC. Christina Schuck (c.1718-c.1744). Married Johann Wilhelm Volprecht. Died in NC. Rosina Barbara Schuck (c.1720-?). Married Johann Frantz Nerbass/Mehrbas on 20 Oct 1746. Maria Catharina Schuck (c.1722-?). Married Henry Eigner. Johannes George Schuck/Shook (1724-aft1799) of North Carolina. Born in 1724 in Germany, and died aft 4 Oct 1799 NC. One source states that he arrived in New York from Holland in 1740. "George stopped for a few months in that city to visit some of his relatives, who had come over during the occupation of Manhattan by the Dutch many years before." Among these NY relatives was Jacob Shook of Red Hook, NY. He then went to PA, where he bought land near Philadelphia in what is now Northampton Co. He married 1) Elizabeth Grub on 8 Aug 1748, 2) Regina Sharp Beckwell. Around 1760 the family moved from Northampton PA to NC, then Burke Co., SC. The children listed below are George and Elizabeth's. Born in Schickenhof, Bavaria , Stark was educated at the Bayreuth Gymnasium (grammar school) and later in Regensburg. His collegiate education began at the Munich University, where he studied physics, mathematics chemistry , and crystallography . His tenure at that college began in ; he graduated in , with his doctoral dissertation regarding some physics subjects of Isaac Newton He worked in various positions at the Physics Institute of his alma mater until , when he became an unsalaried lecturer at the University of Göttingen. He moved throughout various physics colleges until . In , however, he won the Nobel Prize in physics for his "discovery of the Doppler effect in canal rays and the splitting of spectral lines in electric fields" (the latter is known as the Stark effect ). Jacobse Mel Gibson's film "The Passion of the Christ" boldly asserts that the cross stands at the center of the Christian gospel. The claim is scandalous to Jews, folly to Greeks, and threatening to secularists. It accounts for some of the strong attacks against the film before its release and the tepid uncertainty from Hollywood that follows it. Clearly this movie is making an impact that will take some time to assess. "Passion" chronicles the last twelve hours of the life of Christ starting with the arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane and leading up to the crucifixion, with the briefest glimpse of the resurrection. Scenes of the arrest and torture make up most of the film. It is hard to overstate the impact of these scenes. Every crack of the whip is heard. Flesh is ripped from body and blood spatters the faces of onlookers. It's a relentless portrayal of gruesome suffering. Gibson draws from a Roman Catholic traditionalism that portrays the crucifixion in the stark terms of historical realism. The idea behind it is that understanding the magnitude of the suffering that Christ endured helps a viewer comprehend the enormity of His sacrifice on the cross.
