DYNAMICS OF DILUTE DISORDERED MODELS: A SOLVABLE CASE
by Guilhem Semerjian and Leticia F. Cugliandolo
ABSTRACT: We study the dynamics of a dilute spherical model with two body interactions and random exchanges. We analyze the Langevin equations and we introduce a functional variational method to study generic dilute disordered models. A crossover temperature replaces the dynamic transition of the fully-connected limit. There are two asymptotic regimes, one determined by the central band of the spectral density of the interactions and a slower one determined by localized configurations on sites with high connectivity. We confront the behavior of this model to the one of real glasses. ICTP Preprint No.IC2003097

ICTP Lecture Notes Series Since unpublished material presented at the meetings might prove of great interest also to scientists who did not take part in the schools, the Centre has made them available through a new publication titled ICTP Lecture Note Series . It is hoped that this formally structured pedagogical material in advanced topics will be helpful to young students and researchers, in particular to those working under less favourable conditions. Large View Salam, Abdus (1925-1952) martyr of the language movement . Abdus Salam was born in the village of Luxmipur under Feni district in 1925. Deprived of the opportunity to receive a good education, he used to serve as a peon in the Department of Industries of the government, and had his living quarters at 36B Nilkhet Barrack in Dhaka. On 21 February 1952, students and common people defied official ban on assemblage of people imposed under Section 144, and staged a demonstration in front of Dhaka Medical College Hostel demanding recognition of Bangla as one of the state languages of Pakistan. Abdus Salam took part in the demonstration and was shot when the police fired on the crowd. He received treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for over a month but passed away on 7 April 1952. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak posthumously in February 2000. [Dilruba Begum]

He passed matriculation from Feni High School in 1926 and Intermediate of Arts from Chittagong College in 1928. He obtained BA Honours and MA in English Literature from Calcutta Presidency College in 1931 and 1932 respectively. Abdus Salam started his career as an English teacher in Feni College and soon he left the job to join government service, first in the income tax department and then in the office of civil supplies and later, in the audit and accounts department. In 1949, he left government service and took a job in the editorial desk of the Pakistan Observer and in the same year, he became the editor of the daily. The government of Pakistan banned the daily and arrested Abdus Salam in February 1952 on the allegation that the daily had published an editorial subversive to the state. Salam contested successfully in the 1954 elections as a united front candidate from the Feni North constituency. The United Front government withdrew the ban on the

Glashow y S. Weinberg. Inicio Buscador Recomendar sitio

Prof. Abdus Salam
The International Centre for Theoretical Physics perches on apine-covered slope overlooking the sapphire-blue Adriatic. But the directors's office looks ou t the back into the side of a hill. The location seems somehow in character for Abdus Salam, whose purpose lies less with elegant vistas than with little-known corners of the world -and who, despite his Nobel Prize for Physics, typically describes himself as "a humble research physicist from a developing country [Pakistan]." Asked about his agenda for the next century, he responds without hesitation. "The real issue, to my mind," he says, "is the great divide between the South and the North," referring to those regions of the globe roughly representing the developing and the developed nations. Although he speaks softly -from a desk chair facing a framed photo- graph of Albert Einstein and a blackboard chalked with mathematical formulas -his words carry fervor.
