one other thing I forgot, because apache uses the perl module to handle files within the dir that you set up, you can give the files any extension you like or even leave it off, it means you can have pretty url's like www.mywebsite/apps/niceapp they're also not so obvious which might slow the odd hacker down. I'll shut up now :-) Martin. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [ mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] ] Sent: 27 November 2002 09:25 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Apache won't run perl scripts Martin There's no urgency on this so whenever you've got the time. Yes I am in the UK. I'd appreciate an extract of a config file just to see if there's some value I've missed. Thanks Andy Internet [EMAIL PROTECTED] - 25/11/2002 19:33 To: Andy PARKER, vmsperl cc: Subject: RE: Apache won't run perl scripts Have you installed mod_perl?, I'm not saying you can't run scripts without it but I've had no problems with, perl 5.6.1 vms 7.3 apache 1.3.20 and the supported version of mod perl. When you install mod_perl it adds directives to some of the conf files that you need. There's may be an easier way but maybe this will help. I could also mail you extracts of an apache config file if that would help. Martin. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [

The Porter Stemming Algorithm
Martin Porter The algorithm was originally described in Porter, M.F., 1980, An algorithm for suffix stripping, Program (3) :130-137. It has since been reprinted in Sparck Jones, Karen, and Peter Willet, 1997, Readings in Information Retrieval , San Francisco: Morgan Kaufmann, ISBN 1-55860-454-4. The Algorithm has been widely used, quoted, and adapted over the past 20 years. Unfortunately variants of it abound which claim to be true implementations, and this can cause confusion. This page contains a demonstration of the stemmer, and downloadable versions of it in ANSI C, Java, Perl and other languages. The original stemmer was coded up in BCPL , a language no longer in vogue. In its final surviving form, this BCPL version has three minor points of difference from the published algorithm, and these are clearly marked in the downloadable ANSI C version. They are discussed further below. The ANSI C, Java and Perl versions are exactly equivalent to the original BCPL version, having been tested on a large corpus of English text. The original paper was, I hope, unambiguous, despite a couple of irritating typos, but even so the ANSI C version nowadays acts as a better definition of the algorithm than the original published paper. In May I was invited to speak at OSCOM 3, and taht gave me a chance to
catch up with people working with other open source CMSs. There is a lot
going on, but the strong products are in general those that have been
around for a while, and have nurtured a lively community.
As to "why do you need root", well, CMSs are bound to require that you setup some software. For instance, setting up PHP and MySQL usually requires root access ;)

[Linux-working-group-l] Question of /etc/hosts.allow on Red Hat.
Martin L. Purschke purschke at bnl.gov
Tue Dec 23 18:27:35 EST 2003 Hi, Question: with Red Hat Linux, is there some way that /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny can control what clients can connect to a server which is always listening (*not* started by tcpd) and which is *not* compiled/linked against libwrap? Is there some other firewall software that honors these files? -Brett.
