Philip Warr and Andrew Smith were reserves. 2002 Report This year playing in division 4b at Eastbourne, there were the normal problems getting a team together. The team was heavily disabled with injuries to John and Mark, as well as Russell, the captain who was unavailable for singles. Despite this setback the team performed with good team spirit. In particular Mark Bright managed a couple of great singles rubbers. However at the end of play on the Sunday the team unfortunately missed promotion by 1 rubber, and therefore stay in the division. This season Russell would like to increase the squad and invites anyone who would like to be considered to contact him, as he intends to organise some practise sessions leading up to the championships. He was the sole recipient of the 1984 Nobel prize in Chemistry for his revolutionary workin developing a method of synthesizing peptides and protiens. Professor Merrifield is the recipient of many national and international awards including the Lasker Award, Gairdner Award, Infra-Science Award, A.C.S. Award, Nichols Award, Pierce Award, Chemistry and the Order of San Carlos (Colombia). He was Nobel Guest Professor in 1968 and is a member os the National Academy of Sciences (USA).
