His books include King Solomon's Ring 1952 (on animal behaviour) and On Aggression 1966 (on human behaviour). Was wollte er in seinem Leben bewirken Sein Leben Konrad Zacharias Lorenz wurde am 7. November 1903 in Altenberg bei Wien geboren. Im Hause seines Vaters konnte er sich schon als Kind mit Tieren beschäftigen. Bereits mit fünf Jahren entdeckte Lorenz die sogenannte Prägung bei Entenkücken. Konrad Lorenz war ein leidenschaftlicher Forscher: "Ein Wissenschafter, der sein Objekt nicht liebt und der sich am Wissen über das Objekt nicht ergötzt, gehört in die Würst'." Er studierte in Wien und New York Medizin, wurde 1928 zum Doktor der Medizin und nach weiterem Studium der Zoologie 1933 zum Dr. phil. promoviert. Schon während seines Studiums legte er mit der Erforschung von tierischen Instinktbewegungen den Grundstein für die vergleichende Verhaltensforschung. Seine Arbeit "Über den Begriff der Instinkthandlung" von 1937 gilt als Beginn der vergleichenden Verhaltensforschung. In einem Spiegel-Interview von 1988 meint er zu dieser Zeit: "Und ich habe mich ja auch vor aller Politik gedrückt [...] vor einer Auseinandersetzung mit den Nazis habe ich mich in sehr verächtlicher Weise gedrückt, ich hatte einfach keine Zeit dazu."

Nacido en Viena un 7 de noviembre, e hijo de un famoso cirujano ortopedista, desde muy chico mostró especial interés por los animales, y solía llevar a su casa pájaros, perros, gatos, conejos y peces que traía de sus excursiones. Se doctoró en Medicina en 1928 y en Zoología en 1933; fue asistente del Instituto de Anatomía de Viena y enseñó anatomía comparada y psicología animal. En 1940 es nombrado titular de la cátedra de psicología de la Universidad de Konisberg. Las investigaciones que lo hicieron famoso habían comenzado, según él mísmo, en los tiempos de su niñez, cuando se dedicaba a observar la conducta de los animales. Estudió especialmente a las aves, que eran sus animales preferidos. En 1950 crea el Departamento de Etología comparada en el seno del Instituto Max Plack. Fue Premio Nobel de Medicina y Fisiología en 1973, junto con Karl von Frisch y Nikolaas Tinbergen. Support Us Konrad Lorenz biography Ethology - Imprinting Konrad Lorenz (Konrad Zacharias Lorenz) was born on November 7, 1903 in Vienna, Austria. As a little boy, he loved animals and had a collection that included fish, dogs, monkeys, insects, ducks, and geese. His interest in animal behaviour was intense. When he was 10 years old, Lorenz became aware of the existence of the Theory of Evolution through reading a book by Wilhelm Bölsche in which he was fascinated by a picture of an Archaeopteryx. Evolution gave him insight - his father had explained that the word "insect" was derived from the notches, the "incisions" between the segments - if reptiles could become birds, annelid worms could develop into insects. As he grew towards adulthood he wanted to become a paleontologist, however, he reluctantly followed his father's wishes, and studied medicine at the University of Vienna and at Columbia University. He later regarded this compliance to have been in his own best interests as one of his teachers of anatomy, Ferdinand Hochstetter, proved to be a brilliant comparative anatomist and embryologist and a dedicated teacher of the comparative method. Lorenz quickly realized that comparative anatomy and embryology offered a better access to the problems of evolution than paleontology did, and that the comparative method was as applicable to behaviour patterns as it was to anatomical structure. He maintained his deep interest in animal behaviour during his medical studies, making detailed observations of a jackdaw in a diary that was later published in a prestigious journal of ornithology.

Le public ne pouvait qu'être rassuré par cette image d'un grand biologiste si manifestement intéressé par les manifestations concrètes de la vie. Dans la vie d'un tel chercheur, la science est une présence amicale et, inversement, les petits gestes de l'existence quotidienne ont une coloration qui les rattache au monde de la science. Lorenz arrivait souvent avec quelques minutes de retard à ses cours de l'Institut Max Planck. Ce trajet, qu'il faisait à pied bien sûr, était un sentier de la vie. Tel matin il prolongeait sa conversation avec la boulangère, tel autre matin son attention était retenue par un écureuil. Route sinueuse! Les êtres vivants ignorent la ligne droite. Il n'y a qu'à voir la forme des raccourcis que les gens adoptent spontanément dans les parcs. Ayant étudié la carte de la ville de Munich, les étudiants de Lorenz proposèrent au maître un trajet plus rationnel, comportant moins de points de vie. Lorenz respecta l'horaire, mais ce fut pour son malheur et celui des étudiants: il devint de plus en plus maussade jusqu'à ce qu'il revienne à son premier trajet. Il venait de vivre ce qu'il avait si souvent observé chez ses oies.
