Philipp von Lenard From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. (Redirected from Philipp Eduard Anton von Lenard Philipp Eduard Anton von Lenard June 7 May 20 ) was a German physicist and the winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics in for his research on cathode rays and the discovery of many of their properties. Lenard is remembered as strong nationalist who despised of English physics, which he considered as havng stolen their ideas from Germany. During the Nazi time he was the outspoken proponent of the idea that Germany should rely on "German physics" and ignore the -in his opinion- fallacious and maybe even on purpose misleading ideas of "Jewish physics" (by which he meant chiefly the theories of Albert Einstein One might argue that nationalism and anti-Semitism is already bad enough but many physicists feels it to be even more tainting and embarrassing that Lenard tried to attack a theory not by means of scientific argument but by arguing ad hominem . It is hence sort of amusing to remark in this context the important role that Einstein's explanation of the photoelectric effect plays for appreciating the value of Lenard's work on cathode rays : Without Einstein's theory demonstrating the importance of Lenard's observation, he might not have been awarded a Nobel price.

Lenard, Philipp Eduard Anton Nìmecký fyzik a spoludržitel Nobelovy ceny za fyziku pro rok 1905 za výzkum katodových paprskù a za objev mnoha jejich vlastností. Tyto výsledky byly dùležité pro vývoj elektroniky a jaderné fyziky. Po té, co se v roce 1893 stal pedagogem na univerzitì v Bonnu a asistentem Heinricha Hertze, stal se také profesorem fyziky na univerzitách v Breslau (1894), v Cáchách (1895), v Heidelbergu (1896) a Kielu (1898). V roce 1907 se vrátil zpìt na univerzitu v Heidelbergu, kde setrval až do odchodu do penze. Lenard vìdìl, že katodové paprsky procházejí skrz slabé plátky kovu a tak zkonstruoval v roce 1898 katodovou trubici s hliníkovým okénkem, skrze které mohly paprsky volnì vycházet do prostoru. Použil fosforeskující stínítko a ukázal, že intenzita paprskù se snižuje se zvìtšováním vzdálenosti stínítka. Tento pokus také ukázal, že schopnost pøímìsí pohlcovat paprsky závisí na jejich hustotì a ne na chemickém složení a že se pohlcování snižuje s rostoucí rychlostí paprskù v prostøedí. V pokusu provádìném v roce 1899 ukázal, že "katodové paprsky" vznikají pøi dopadu svìtla na povrch kovu. Tento jev se pozdìji stal známým pod názvem fotoelektrický jev Lenardùv výzkum také zahrnoval studium ultrafialového záøení, elektrické vodivosti plamenù a fosforescence. Napsal velké množství knih o katodovém záøení, relativitì a souvisejících tématech.

Pluckerem) nemusi existovat jen ve vybojove trubici. Zjistil, ze nositele elektrickeho naboje katodovych paprsku jsou elektrony.
