http://www.survivalafterdeath.org/letters/radin.htm
LETTERS Dean Radin Letters to a Prestigious Science Journal Letter by Dean Radin sent to Nature magazine, January 17th, 1998 Dear Editor,
I have heard that numerous people have gained an unfavorable impression of my book, "The Conscious Universe" (1997, HarperEdge), as a result of a review published in your journal on Oct. 23rd, p.806. Prof. I. J. Good's review involved factual errors, not merely differences in opinion, and I would like the journal to publish a correction in view of this.
In his review (Oct. 23rd, p.806) of my book "The Conscious Universe" (1997, HarperEdge), I.J. Good suggests, based on certain misunderstandings on his part, that something "must be" wrong with my statistical arguments in favor of the reality of psychic phenomena. His inability to reproduce my estimate that 3,300 unpublished, unsuccessful experiments would be required for each published ESP card experiment (to nullify the cumulative outcome) follows from his incorrect assumption that my words "more than", used in connection with the cumulative odds against chance for the 186 experiments listed in Pratt et al (1966, "ESP after 60 years", as noted in my book), could safely be replaced by "approximately equal to." The actual p-value is approximately 10 , to which application of standard methods (Rosenthal, 1991, "Meta-analytic procedures for social research") gives my reported figure. Secondly, Good attributed to me an inaccurate statement actually made by the skeptical psychologist Mark Hansel. I am well aware that combining the statistical outcomes of experiments is not the same as combining the probabilities of independent events, but did not think it necessary to correct Hansel's mistake in a book aimed towards a general readership.

Anomalies, Science, "Pseudoscience," and Related Subjects Parapsychology: Selected Articles, Books and Websites Parapsychology, [Marcello] Truzzi contends as a sociologist, is more tough-minded than many other academic fields, yet paradoxically, it remains a fringe subject. "Parapsychologists really want to play the game by the proper statistical rules," he expounds. "They're very staid. They thought they could convince these sceptics but the sceptics keep raising the goalposts. It's ironic, because real psychic researchers are very committed to doing real science, more than a lot of people in science are. Yet they get rejected, while we can be slipshod in psychology and sociology and economics and get away with it. We're not painted as the witchdoctors, but they are."

Not because they were bad but because trying to encompass the range of emotions and thoughts unleashed is almost overwhelming at this point. It didn't matter if I wrote it starting from our experiences waiting in line watching the the previous audience leave, whose faces Brian's stepson (who is not the sharpest judge of metaphor, which is a huge understatement) likened to those he saw in the aftermath of 9/11. It didn't matter if I started from the shared 9/11 aftermath flashback Brian and I had near the very end of the movie. It didn't matter if I tore apart a few lousy reviews or highlighted those that "got it". It didn't matter if I pulled up a piece I'd started two days ago slagging a reviewer who already viewed it and, having never seen the movie, completely understanding what he missed. No, it didn't matter where I started...the problem was where to end. All of those ideas developed wonderfully except there was no real point to any of them. You either get it or you don't. Gibson wasn't attempting to convert the unconverted or tell those who believed anything they didn't already know...he was merely
