Nobel Prize winners 'in shock'
LONDON, England The winners of the Nobel Prize for medicine said they were "bowled over" by their award for ground-breaking new cancer research. British scientists R.Timothy Hunt and Paul M. Nurse, who won the prize with American researcher Leland H. Hartwell, added that they were still reeling from shock and disbelief at a hastily arranged press conference in the UK. "I'm not sure we really believe it but it's on the (Nobel) web site now," Hunt told Reuters news agency, the first of the pair to hear about the honour. Nurse heard the news after he was pulled out of a meeting and told to turn on his mobile phone. The 50 professors of Stockholm's Karolinska Institute, which makes up the Nobel Assembly that votes for the winner of the physiology or medicine award, announced the $1 million prize on Monday. When asked what they would do with the prize money, 58-year-old Hunt said he would pay off the mortgage but Nurse, six years his junior, had something else in mind.

Two Nobel laureates joined leading scientists, academics and science writers from across the world today in announcing their opposition to plans by York University to affiliate with the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College(CMCC.) Last May, the York Senate voted in favor of affiliation with CMCC, despite strong objections from members of the York science faculty. Final approval is set for this spring. York, located in Toronto, is the third largest university in Canada. It would become the first major university in the world to voluntarily associate with a chiropractic college.

Catalysts Catalysts Courier - courier 49 The Akzo Nobel Accessibility Index Test By K.Y. Yung
ABSTRACT Akzo Nobel has developed new relevant FCC tests for developing improved FCC catalysts and performing FCC studies at conditions as close as possible to those found in commercial large-scale FCC units and to provide service to the oil refining industry. The novel Short Contact Time Resid Test (SCT-RT), the Akzo Accessibility Index test (AAI), and the Hot Attrition Test (HAT) are now extensively used at Akzo Nobel’s research laboratories. In Courier 47 (March 2002) it was announced that the Short Contact Time Resid Test (SCT-RT) is now available to the oil refining industry. The first unit has now been delivered. The Akzo Accessibility Index test (AAI) is now also available to interested parties through Sotelem Export and Imtech Systems.
INTRODUCTION
Techniques for short contact time cracking and the processing of vast amounts of residual feedstock have enabled the fluid catalytic cracking process to maintain its prominent role as the prime conversion process in the oil refining industry. Improved FCC catalysts have made it economically feasible to process ever increasing amounts of the more-contaminated oils. Although it was recognized that diffusion could be limiting in operations with short contact time and/or resid processing, catalyst accessibility was not really taken into account in the selection of an FCC catalyst. Experience in the past years, however

Premio Nobel

Alfred Nobel was born in 1833 in Stockholm, Sweden. His family was descended from Olof Rudbeck, the best-known technical genius of Sweden's 17th century era as a great power in northern Europe. Nobel invented dynamite in 1866 and later built up companies and laboratories in more than 20 countries all over the world. On November 27, 1895, Nobel signed his last will providing for the establishment of the Nobel Prize. He died of cerebral haemorrhage in his home in San Remo, Italy on December 10, 1896. "On October 21, 1833 a baby boy was born to a family in Stockholm, Sweden who was to become a famous scientist, inventor, businessman and founder of the Nobel Prizes. His parents named him Alfred."

Vida y personalidad
