Egypt: Black Land and Eternal Life : Pyramids
The ancient Egyptian were an interesting people. I have always been amazed by the pyramids but I never knew that they were built through the power of religion. The ancient pharohs had their people erect these massive structures to ensure their own passage in the after life. Maybe these people figured if they could get their leader in to the after life that he would show them the way. However, religion is a powerful motivator and the pharohs used it well. Different People
I thought it was really interesting that the land between to rivers was ruled by so many different people. It seemed as soon as one people would get a grip on things another people would come and take them over. I also find it interesting that most of the people believed in many Gods, it is hard for me to realize because I have believed in one God my whole life.
There is one thing to say about the land between to river and that is it was rule by some great peoples! Posted by rhulse at April 8, 2004 12:27 AM

    Astrophysicist Nobel Laureate Professor
R USSELL H ULSE is a Visiting Professor at The University of Texas at Dallas and a Principal Research Physicist and Distinguished Research Fellow at Princeton University's Plasma Physics Laboratory . In 1993, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics for the first binary pulsar. The discovery of the first binary pulsar is of great significance for astrophysics and gravitational physics research. A binary pulsar is a small and dense neutron star with two heavy bodies that rotate very fast around each other and emit regular pulses of polarized radiation. The significance of this discovery is that the behavior of these two bodies deviates greatly from what classical Newtonian mechanics predicts. The behavior of this system has been studied closely and used to verify Einstein's general theory of relativity, especially the existence of gravitational radiation. Since receiving the Nobel Prize, he has made a strong commitment to improving science education. Through an ongoing collaboration with The College of New Jersey's School of Education , he is working to improve the science education skills of pre-service teachers and develop new educational approaches for use in the K-12 classroom. Another partnership with the Plainsboro Public Library has resulted in the creation of "Contact Science" - an initiative to create traveling science center exhibits with associated hands-on projects and mentoring programs in public libraries.

09:35 PM CST on Sunday, November 16, 2003 By IEVA M. AUGSTUMS / The Dallas Morning News
An announcement Monday by the University of Texas at Dallas could make Texas schoolchildren smarter in math and science and further UTD's hopes of becoming a premier research institution. Russell A. Hulse, co-recipient of the 1993 Nobel Prize in physics, has agreed to join UTD as a visiting professor of physics, science and math education. He is the second Nobel winner to join UTD's faculty since 2001. "The Nobel Prize gets a lot of people's attention," said Hobson Wildenthal, UTD's provost. "We are thrilled to be having Dr. Hulse join us." Dr. Hulse, 52, is a principal research physicist at the U.S. Department of Energy's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory. He will retain his position at Princeton University in New Jersey but is expected to spend about half his time with UTD activities. He will continue to live on the East Coast. Dr. Hulse will work with UTD's science and mathematics education department to develop programs for kindergarten through 12th grade in school districts throughout the state.

There he worked with Taylor on a large-scale survey for pulsars using the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico . It was this work that led to the discovery of the first binary pulsar. In , Hulse and Taylor discover binary pulsar PSR 1913+16 which is made up of a pulsar and black companion star . Neutron star rotation emits impulses extremely regular and stable in the radio waves and is nearby condensed material body gravitation (non-detectable in the visible field).Hulse, Taylor, and other colleagues have used this first binary pulsar to make high-precision tests of general relativity , demonstrating the existence of gravitational radiation in the amount. The Binary Pulsar PSR 1913+16:
In 1993, the Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Russell Hulse and Joseph Taylor of Princeton University for their 1974 discovery of a pulsar , designated PSR1913+16, in a binary system, in orbit with another star around a common center of mass. Using the Arecibo 305m antenna, Hulse and Taylor detected pulsed radio emission and thus identified the source as a pulsar , a rapidly rotating, highly magnetized neutron star . The neutron star rotates on its axis 17 times per second; thus the pulse period is 59 milliseconds. After timing the radio pulses for some time, Hulse and Taylor noticed that there was a systematic variation in the arrival time of the pulses. Sometimes, the pulses were received a little sooner than expected; sometimes, later than expected. These variations changed in a smooth and repetitive manner, with a period of 7.75 hours. They realized that such behavior is predicted if the pulsar were in a binary orbit with another star. The pulsar and its companion both follow elliptical orbits around their common center of mass. Each star moves in its orbit according to Kepler's Laws ; at all times the two stars are found on opposite sides of a line passing through the center of mass. The period of the orbital motion is 7.75 hours, and the stars are believed to be nearly equal in mass, about 1.4 solar masses. As shown in the figure here, the orbits are quite eccentric. The minimum separation at
