Schon im Jahr darauf setzte der US-amerikanische Therapeut Joseph Holland Burchenal (*1912) als Erster Purinethol zur Bekämpfung der akuten und chronischen myeloischen Leukämie erfolgreich ein. Dr. Elion will discuss The Challenges and Rewards of Pharmaceutical Research, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 4-5 p.m., in the College of Pharmacy auditorium, Room 325. Dr. Elion's accomplishments in pharmaceutical research span five decades of scientific endeavor, touching millions of lives along the way. She is credited with the synthesis and co-development of two of the first successful drugs for the treatment of leukemia, as well as an agent that prevents the rejection of kidney transplants and treats rheumatoid arthritis.
