1965 - United Nations Children's Fund ( Unicef
Founded in 1946, UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child and strives to establish children's rights enduring ethical principles and international standards of behavior towards children. During the post-WWII period, UNICEF used an "emergency needs approach" to meet the food, clothing, and health needs of children, particularly in Europe. Today, UNICEF, the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children, works with other United Nations bodies, governments and non-governmental organizations to lighten children's loads through community-based services in primary health care, basic education, and safe water and sanitation in developing countries. Norman Borlaug
Norman Borlaug is a plant breeder who for most of the past five decades has lived in developing nations, teaching the techniques of high-yield agriculture. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1970, primarily for his work in reversing the food shortages that haunted India and Pakistan in the 1960s. Perhaps more than anyone else, Borlaug is responsible for the fact that throughout the postwar era, except in sub-Saharan Africa, global food production has expanded faster than the human population, averting the mass starvations that were widely predicted for example, in the 1967 best seller Famine 1975! The form of agriculture that Borlaug preaches may have prevented a billion deaths.

Nelson Mandela
Rolihlahla Mandela was born in the black homeland of Transkei on July 18, 1918. Nelson was added later, by a primary school teacher. He joined a law firm in Johannesburg as an apprentice where years of daily exposure to the inhumanities of apartheid, where being black reduced one to the status of a nonperson, kindled in him courage to change the world. He joined the Youth League of the African National Congress and became involved in programs of passive resistance against the laws that forced blacks to carry passes and kept them in a position of permanent servility. He was arrested in 1964 and sentenced to life imprisonment on Robben Island. He spent twenty-seven in prison. Nelson Mandela was released on February 18, 1990. After his release, he plunged himself wholeheartedly into his life's work, striving to attain the goals he and others had set out almost four decades earlier. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Fredrik Willem de Klerk in 1993, and was elected President of South Africa in 1994. To millions of people around the world, Nelson Mandela stands for the triumph of dignity and hope over despair and hatred, of self-discipline and love over persecution and evil. For More Information

DE KLERK, FREDRIK WILLEM
(Johannesburg 1936) .

by Will Pitts Fredrik Willem de Klerk Nobel Peace Prize. To understand how F.W de Klerk came to do so much for his country. It is necessary to look at his past. De Klek’s family were Dutch Afrikaners, but none of his relatives took part in the journey to the states that the Afrikaners moved to after the British came and took over, but his family is made up of Dutch Afrikaners (de klerk 1 -10). As a child he was born in Voorekker, inside Pretoria. His mother’s name was Cornellia Cortzer. She was from the Orange Free state(de Klerk, .12-26). His father was the head master at a learning facility, and then moved on to work and became part of The "White Workers Protection Union", the organization that brought apartheid into his life. His dad died in 1979 and his mom continued to raise him. (De Klerk, F.W.12-26).De Klerk grew up with a Christian background, and his family and surroundings influenced him to take part in apartheid. De klerk attended more than four different schools, which gave him a variety of academic studies. De Klerk was enrolled in the grandest Afrikaners school there was, Monument High School, which was located in Krugerdrop (de klerk, 24-46). Because de klerk had few friends at school he soon became involved in school politics. De Klerk was smart and used his intelligence not only in his academic studies, but also in school government, which would start his life of politics (de klerk, 24-27). In 1954, he attended the University of Potchefstroom, a Christian school. There he played a huge role in the
