Francis Harry Compton Crick (born June 8 ) is one of the discoverers of the structure of the DNA molecule. Born in Northampton England , he studied physics at University College London , and became a B.Sc. in . After World War II , during which he worked on magnetic and acoustic mine s, he began studying biology In , he started working with James Watson at Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge in England. Building on the X-ray research of Rosalind Franklin , they together developed the proposal of the helical structure of DNA, which they published in , and for which both were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine He also made significant contributions in laying the foundations of the now mature field of molecular biology . This includes work on the nature of the genetic code and the mechanisms of protein synthesis. He left molecular biology for his other interest, consciousness , on which he now works. Crick currently works at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, California

Biography: Francis Crick
The life and times of Francis Crick Francis Harry Compton Crick was born 8 June 1916 in Northampton, England. Having attended schools in Northampton and North London, in 1934, aged 18, Crick began studying physics at University College London, graduating in 1937.
In 1951, James Watson arrived at the Cavendish and met Crick. The two quickly became friends and embarked on an attempt to uncover the structure of DNA. Crick brought to the project his knowledge of X-ray diffraction, while Watson brought knowledge of phage and bacterial genetics. Combining evidence from biochemistry, X-ray diffraction images created by Rosalind Franklin and Maurice Wilkins, and physical clues from molecular models, they determined the three-dimensional structure of the DNA molecule to be a double helix. This discovery was published in the 25 April 1953 edition of the journal Nature. The order of the names on the paper (Watson and Crick) was decided by the flip of a coin. This paper was quickly followed by another that suggested a mechanism for the replication of DNA.

English physicist who worked on radar and magnetic mine development during World War II. After the war, with James Watson he pondered Wilkins and Rosalind Franklin's X-ray diffraction data and tried to construct a physical model of DNA Watson and Crick believed the model had to be helical based on X-ray diffraction data, and were afraid they were about to be scooped by Pauling who was hard at work on his alpha helix model. James Watson and Crick got a much needed clue upon reading Chargaff's paper on one-to-one adenine to thymine and cytosine to guanine rations. In 1953, after a brainstorm by James Watson , in which he realized that the shape of the base pairs meant they could only be arranging in a certain way, they published a paper proposing at the DNA molecule had double helical structure. Crick, James Watson , and Wilkins shared the 1962 Nobel Prize in medicine and physiology for this discovery, which was subsequently verified experimentally. Beginnings
He is thought to have been born at Drumalig, in the parish of Saintfield, County Down, Northern Ireland. Though the family had originated from Ayrshire, Scotland, both his father and grandfather were ministers of dissenting congregations in the north of Ireland. Hutcheson was educated partly by his grandfather, partly at an academy, where according to his biographer, Dr Leechman, he was taught "the ordinary scholastic philosophy which was in vogue in those days." In 1710 he entered the University of Glasgow, where he spent six years, at first in the study of philosophy, classics and general literature, and afterwards in the study of theology.
