Susan Werthheimer David Photo caption: Raku vase 15.5 in. height Artist Statement After receiving a master degree in art history at the Institute of Fine Arts in New York City, Susan Wertheimer David began making pots twenty years ago. Having studied the work of many famous artists, expressing herself in clay was a natural progression. Volume and the sense of space around the form are some of the issues Susan examines in her work. Equally important though is the exploration of how these pieces, which exist within the firm reality of three-dimensional form, depend on the ephemeral elements of fire and smoke to create the final product. Working in raku allows Susan to explore this tension between form and environment. email: swdpots@aol.com
