Sanierung des Bourbaki-Panoramas; Einplanung von Stadtbibliothek, Ausstellungsraum, Kinos, Restaurant, Läden
fertiggestellt 2000
This talking book comes with an interactive ''magic pen'' that works like a hand-held computer mouse pointer. Children can opt to turn the paper pages and listen to the story read with different voices for each character. Or they can interrupt the read-aloud session to play with the magic pen (permanently attached with a wire). They can point the pen tip to any word on a page and hear it pronounced, or touch a picture and hear a sound effect (such as ''Strike one!'' for the baseball bat). Very similar to the popular Living Books computer games, this 10-by-11-inch book is more portable than a home computer. Stories in this set include Lil's Loose Tooth, Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever, and Winnie the Pooh in A Sweet Good Morning. The set also includes a paper piano keyboard and map and human anatomy games. Gail Hudson

    Nicolas Bourbaki
Nicolas Bourbaki is the pseudonym under which a group of mainly French 20th-century mathematicians wrote a series of books of exposition of modern advanced mathematics , beginning in . With the goal of founding all of mathematics on set theory , the group strove for utmost rigour and generality, creating some new terminology and concepts along the way. Aiming at a completely self-contained treatment of most of modern mathematics based on set theory, the group produced the following volumes:
I Set theory II Algebra III Topology IV Functions of one real variable V Topological vector spaces VI Integration
    and later
VII Commutative algebra VIII Lie groups
A final volume IX on spectral theory from 1983 marked the presumed end of the publishing project. The emphasis on rigour , which turned out to be quite influential, may be seen as a reaction to the work of Jules-Henri Poincaré , who stressed the importance of free flowing mathematical intuition. The influence of Bourbaki's work has decreased over time, partly because some of their abstractions did not prove as useful as initially thought, and partly because other abstractions which are now considered to be important, such as the machinery of category theory , are not covered.

The Bourbaki Gambit, though a work of fiction, may very well be compared to Watson's classic The Double Helix. The author reveals, as only an insider can do, how much of scientific research is fueled by human passions." Arthur C. 19th CENTURY PAINTED BOURBAKI PANORAMA
    BOURBAKI PANORAMA IN LUZERN, SWITZERLAND
    by Michelle Bienias
Although many are now familiar with VR tours or panoramas, you may not be familiar with their historical predecessor – the painted panorama.
“Panorama” is derived from Greek and means to “see all”. The Scottish artist Robert Blake is credited with first conceiving the idea of painting a 360-degree vista in a circular fashion in 1787, while walking in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Although the initial reception to his panoramas was lukewarm, he soon hit upon the idea of showing them in a rotunda-shaped building and their popularity took off.
Panoramas reached the height of their appeal in the early 19th century, when special buildings were constructed to hold these circular paintings that attracted crowds of patrons. Cities such as Rome, Paris, London and Geneva boasted panoramas of their locales, many of which can now be found in art museums. Panoramas would make their appearance in America, where they would become one of the most popular forms of public entertainment, in the mid-1800s.
Later, the Napoleonic wars became a popular theme and extreme care and effort were taken to ensure accurate representation of topographical details and minor scenes, with artists dispatched to the scene of the battle and veterans interviewed. The painting of these panoramas was no small affair but entailed a master artist who directed teams of other artists who specialized in landscapes, buildings, people and skies. These panoramas were so accurate that veterans often brought their families to the panorama exhibit to show them the exact point where they had stood in battle.
