Introduction The formulas contained in this book are those that you will or have encountered, though normal occurrences in your life. You now have the ability to have answers to these problems. By having the ability to figure out the answers on your own, you will then have more control and/or more knowledge to make the correct decisions that affect you. The hardest part of math formulas, is understanding what all of the symbols mean and the necessary steps to work the formula correctly. The goal of this book is to make formulas easy to understand by removing symbols whenever possible and by showing each step. In most examples only one element of an equation has been worked so that you can easily follow the steps taken. Please note that in ten point italic lettering, are notes that aid you in working the problem. Whenever the word "calculate" is used, that means to use a calculator. The only calculator used in the making of this book was a ten year old Texas Instrument Model 30 SLR. The newer Model TI-30Xa works as well. Both calculators cost about twenty dollars. The amount of written words has been kept to a minimum, to make this text useful as a easy and quick reference manual.

I am very new to eVB and require assistance with a problem. Our system requires a formual to be applied (0.13382 * a value) I have been told that it is better to create an array and store the values (which would be each caluclated value) rather than appliing a math formula. Is there a limitation in eVb that math formulas are either not allowed or restricted in such a way as to make using a forula non viable?
vreimer RE: Using math formulas in eVB (5/7/2004 9:10:24 PM)
Storing it in an array should be a quicker solution if there is a finite number of values that need to be converted.
Personally I'd just multiply the value in code, eVBis quick enough the user wouldn't notice the time that it takes.

Rounding Integer Absolute Value Count If ... Sum If
  • Without a doubt, the Math Function that I (and most people I come in contact with) use the most is the Round Function . The syntax for this is =ROUND(number, number of digits), where "number" is the value you want to round (it can be a number or a formula) and "number of digits" is the number of decimal places you want to round. For example, =ROUND(1/3,2) will return 0.33. This is particulary useful when dealing with currency calculations. Note, you can specify a negative number or zero for "number of digits". Specifying zero will return an integer while a negative number will round to the left of the decimal place. An example of this is =ROUND(1000/3,-2), which returns a value of 300. There are also few ways to round a number/formula up or down.
    • If you want to round up a number/formula (away from zero), then you want to use the Roundup Function . The syntax is =ROUNDUP(number, number of digits). Note that the syntax is very similar to the Round Function. =ROUNDUP(1/3,0) will return the value of 1. If you are looking to round down your number/formula (towards zero), then use the

Math Formulas for Everyday Living > Customer Review #1: Lots and lots of information

There is a great deal of useful information packed into this book. I havent looked at any other books of this type, so I have no basis for comparison. That said, this book may not be sufficiently user friendly for those who are truly math phobic. The author gets down to business and is not chatty. So, there isnt a great deal of "hand holding" provided in this book. But, I suspect that most people will be able to find the information they need in this book and successfully solve their math problems.
Math Formulas for Everyday Living > Customer Review #2: Retired Engineer Everyone thinks Engineers know everything. Think again! This book is useful for reference and learning new things. I cant begin to list all the important formulas I have forgotten since College. This book makes complicated things simple and easy to remember. I think this book is an excellent purchase for anyone. It even helped me with my taxes!
