Welcome to the Weed Warriors website, home of Working for Water at South African National Parks . Follow the trials and victories of our intrepid weed warriors as they battle the often beautiful but deadly invading alien plants that threaten the water integrity and biodiversity of our national parks. The biggest global threat to biodiversity is habitat degradation, caused mainly by the activities of people and their ever-increasing demands on the environment. Second to habitat degradation is the threat from alien invader organisms - those plants, animals and insects that, when placed outside their range of natural occurrence, multiply unchecked because they encounter few or no natural enemies. In the national parks of South Africa, the single biggest threat to biodiversity comes from these invading alien organisms. The Working for Water (WfW) programme, in partnership with

Water stored under the earth's surface is a plentiful, yet precious, resource in most areas of Ohio. Many human activities may affect the quality and quantity of this resource. However, the availability and quality of this resource are influenced directly by the properties of the geologic formations that hold water. The chemical and physical nature of these formations varies from area to area, creating a wide range of water yields and quality at different depths. This publication contains information about the ground-water resources underlying Madison County. Its purpose is to help the reader better understand the factors that influence the quantity and quality of ground water. An overview of the county's water resources is provided in the publication Water Resources of Madison County , AEX-480.49.

What's new
All life on this planet depends on water, a precious resource. Yet, we are struggling to manage water in ways that are efficient, equitable, and environmentally sound. Many parts of the world will face increasingly dire conditions as populations grow, cities expand, and sources of clean, fresh water disappear. To avert damaging social and environmental outcomes, we need bold policy reforms. Perverse policies are the main cause of the waste and inefficiency that drive freshwater pollution and over-consumption. Reforming these policies requires governments to implement far-reaching institutional change and promote technical innovation. We hope you will find this information helpful. We welcome your reactions and

This overall finding comes despite low level concentrations of dissolved nitrate that exceed the EPA drinking water standard, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and pesticides being detected in nearly all samples. Possibly harmful concentrations of radon showed up in nearly 80 percent of the groundwater wells sampled.

Program Overview The Indiana Water Resources Research Center (IWRRC) is one of 54 institutes in the National Water Research Institute Program established by "The Water Resources Research Act of 1964". Our program (based on research, student training, and technology transfer) is a unique network which has links to virtually all research-oriented universities in the United States. IWRRC faculty represent a tremendous resource of knowledge and expertise relating to water resources. Blending resources from the University, state and local water resource agencies, and Indiana industries, it offers an excellent opportunity to define and solve water resource problems within our state. The IWRRC is located on the main campus of Purdue University . Since its inception in 1964, the Center has provided financial support for more than 175 research projects at Purdue and other educational institutions throughout Indiana. Our program supports research in all areas of water science, particularly civil engineerig, agriculture, geology, wildlife management, biology, and chemistry. Mission Our mission is to coordinate the intellectual and physical resources of Indiana's universities, state agencies, and industries to resolve technical, economnic, and other problems associated with water resources management, use, and preservation.
