RAMAS Stage
Generalized Stage Modeling for Population Dynamics
RAMAS Stage lets a user build, run and analyze discrete-time models for species with virtually any life history. It is useful for modeling species with complex life histories or other biologies in which stage membership (rather than age) determines the demographic characteristics of an individual. RAMAS Stage comes with templates for species from many taxa (such as mammals, insects, fish, birds and plants) which are easy to customize. RAMAS Stage allows a model to include environmental factors which vary through time, and it yields summaries of the expected abundance of stages and the uncertainty of those expectations. It also estimates the risks that an abundance will fall below, or grow above, any threshold. General life histories. Simple models can be based on developmental stage. These include widely used transition matrix models such as Leslie or Lefkovitch formulations. More complicated models can be constructed to represent more complex life histories that may include multidimensional structure (for example age and size simultaneously) and linear or nonlinear transitions.
Environmental fluctuations.

Under the Aquatic Ecology and Ecotoxicology Study, laboratory and field-based projects are conducted to determine the effects of forest management activities and other disturbances on aquatic organisms and their environment. These include the assessment of forest pesticide effects and the impacts of forest disturbance, such as logging operations. Projects are conducted in collaboration with colleges and universities, other federal and provincial government agencies, and private industries. A primary objective is to determine how forest management activities and other forest disturbances interact with, and impact on, water resources in forest watersheds. Current research activities fall under the following themes:

Glossary of terms
What part of the environment should be investigated? Ecotoxicologists can look at plants and animals in the environment as individuals, or as parts of populations, communities, or ecosystems. As you go from an individual to a population of individuals to an ecosystem containing many different types of plants and animals, the complexity greatly increases. Understanding the effects of chemicals on an ecosystem is one of the greatest challenges for ecotoxicologists. While individuals are the easiest to study, whether effects on individuals are of importance to environmental quality is a major question. It is generally agreed that one individual creature is not important unless it is a member of an endangered species since numbers of individual insects, birds, fish, etc., die each day as part of natural events. Indeed, environmental systems include food chains in which some animals eat others to survive.
What are the best measures of environmental harm?

PTCL Safety Glossary: Ecotoxicology
Ecotoxicology is the study of the movement of toxic materials through the environment, and the effect that those materials have upon natural systems, in particular the effects on populations and ecosystems. The "movement" referred to relates not just to the physical movement of toxic materials, under the influence of groundwater flow for example, but also the movement through plant and animal populations via the food web. What is an Ecotoxicologist?
So you want to study pollution? Ecotoxicologists study pollution and its effects on different ecosystems. Toxicology involves the study of toxic substances on living organisms. New chemical substances developed by man typically undergo toxological tests before they go to market. Such substances include drugs, cleaning compounds, pesticides, food additives, and all sorts of other things that we use every day. As man strives to advance technology and invent new compounds, waste by-products are often generated. Many of these wastes end up in the environment where they cause damage. We call these unused wastes "pollution" when nature and the environment is unable to process and assimilate them without adverse effects. Ecotoxicologists study the effects of these ever-increasing compounds on ecosystems. As an ecotoxicologist you will look at where these pollutants end up in the environment and what sorts of damage they cause to the ecological balance of an ecosystem. Some pollutants accumulate in the food chain, as smaller organisms are eaten in large numbers by larger oganisms, the concentration of pollutants builds up in the living tissue in higher concentrations as they move up the food chain; this is called bioacumulation . In some cases, the pollutants build up in a particular organism in higher concentration than the surrounding environment (air, water, soil, etc.); this is called
