Title: Biota: A tool for simulations of species interactions in diverse environments
Author:
Danbury, Jim; Ben Jones; John Kruper; Eric Nelson; William Sterner; Jeff Schank; Jim Lichtenstein; Joyce Weil; and William Wimsatt (University of Chicago)
Media Type: Software
Description: Part of microbial ecology is the understanding the dynamics of microbe populations. "'Biota' is a rich system for modeling and simulating population dynamics. It supports the study of multiple species in diverse environments with migration between regions and multiple species interactions. An integrated set of 'field tools' is also provided so that pre-authored models can be used as 'black box' problems for simulated filed studies." ~ by the authors

Ecology/Environment
The Ecology flag was, obviously, based upon the US flag in design, hence the stripes and corner field. Many other flags, though, use corner fields, and the planet has generally overlooked the political connection - particularly since the ecology/environment movement is more associated with Britain and France nowadays. The absurdity of having this flag in nylon and NOT cotton is obvious; our manufacturer cites unavailability of cloth for seaming it like our US Peace Flag , and we are further hampered by the preference of everyone for nylon flags. We can't justify the quantity required to special-order the cloth until someone orders a nice bulk of them. Any takers are welcome to contact us. FLAG DAYS: April 22

The course has primarily been designed for advanced students of the language, i.e. those at or beyond the Intermediate High level on the ACTFL scale (1+ on the ILR scale). This normally requires several years of study including some significant time spent in a Russian speaking country. Students who are less proficient may still use the course performing the tasks indicated by That's too hard!! The material is broken down into the following major areas: Lesson 1 Configuring your computer and browser to read and type Russian. Using Russian search engines. Consulting Russian language aides, general and specific dictionaries .

Research Profile
The Ramon Science Center conducts long-term research on the ecology and geology of the Makhtesh Ramon and surrounding environment in the central Negev desert. The center is situated in the town of Mizpe Ramon , about 35 kilometers south of the Blaustein Institute for Desert Research in Sede Boqer. Makhtesh Ramon is a large erosion crater some 40 kilometers long and about 8 kilometers wide, surrounded by 400 meter-high natural walls (see above photograph). Initially established as a geological park because of its remarkably diversity of geological structures and habitats, this crater now forms the central part of Israel's largest nature reserve, called the Negev Mountains National Park. Makhtesh Ramon is home to a wide variety of desert animals and plants, some of which are found nowhere else. Of particular ecological interest is the fact that the crater forms a natural boundary between two major biogeographic zones, the steppe (Irano-Turanian) and the true (Saharo-Arabian) desert. As such, the crater forms a remarkable natural laboratory for the study of the ecological interactions of two floras. The faculty of the Ramon Science Center consists of three geologists ( ) and three ecologists ( ). Our geological interests include the geomorphology and geological evolution of the central

Photograph of PCB warning sign that has been covered up. The contamination of public lands and resources undermine public health and has had a devastating impact on the environment. Of all the threats posed to public lands, Defense facilities contribute more pollution and pose perhaps the gravest threat to public health. The environmental and health impacts of the former Soviet military have been widely reported. Within the United States alone, defense facilities account for more than 30,000 contaminated sites impacting all 50 States. Arc Ecology’s environmental scientists are dedicated to ensuring that the pollution caused by the manufacture, use, and disposal of toxic chemicals, hazardous materials, radiological substances and chemical, biological and nuclear weapons are addressed and that the public’s health is protected. Arc Ecology works toward the cleanup of public lands locally, nationally, and internationally in a variety of ways:

Hidden Casualties of War
Environmental, Health, and Political Consequences of War in the Middle East
In 1990, Arc Ecology (then the ARC/Arms Control Research Center) wrote Hidden Casualties, Volume I , the first of two books. This publication focused on alternatives to military intervention in Iraq and the environmental and human consequences of the pending war. At that time, Hidden Casualties, Volume I gave a chilling prediction of long-term damage, unexploded anti-personnel bombs, and burning oil fields that would have catastrophic effects on the Gulf's marine ecosystem and would cause atmospheric changes with a cause-effect relationship with the 1991 monsoons throughout Asia. By December of 1990, the manuscript of Volume I was distributed to members of the U.S Congress and foreign governments.

The Alpine Plants of
New Zealand Introduction:
This site is for those interested in the cultivation and ecology of these plants. I decided to make this website to introduce the fascinating plants that grow in the mountains of New Zealand.
My name is Ross and I live in Dunedin, New Zealand. Dunedin is a small city near the bottom of the East coast of the South Island. I have recently graduated with an Honours degree in botany from the University of Otago. My Honours project was on the
photosynthesis of alpine plants on the Rock and Pillar Range. I have been cultivating New Zealand alpine plants for 7 years now.
