47. Marine Sciences Program At Avery Point - University Of Connecticut
Combines teaching at the Avery Point campus together with opportunities for involvement in research projects in biological and chemical oceanography.
http://www.marinesciences.uconn.edu/academic/physical.html
Graduate Studies in Physical Oceanography
The physical oceanography group at UConn's Department of Marine Sciences includes four faculty members: Frank Bohlen Dan Codiga Ed Monahan, and Jim O'Donnell
A common thread of their various research interests is an emphasis on understanding fluid dynamics in the coastal environment, but the collective expertise of the group touches on a wide range of physical oceanographic phenomena. As a result, M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in the department gain a broad exposure to the essential subdisciplines of physical oceanography in addition to their in-depth research training.
As well as continued sea-going observational work facilitated by the new R/V Connecticut , our research techniques include numerical circulation simulations, inverse modeling, analytical and theoretical studies, laboratory experiments, the development of in-situ instruments, and satellite data analysis.
Graduate study in physical oceanography at UConn combines quality teaching in the comfortable and personalized setting of the Avery Point campus together with opportunities for involvement in a variety of outstanding research projects. Our integration with the other strengths of the department in biological and chemical oceanography gives us a unique flavor among physical oceanography graduate programs.
In addition to regularly scheduled seminars and new courses that we tailor according to the demands of individual graduate student interests, courses we offer in physical oceanography include the following:

Take the time to read through these guides. You will find that most of your questions will be answered through the incredible variety and depth of career information represented by these sites. This career directory is divided into three sections: general guides for oceanography and marine science; guides for marine biology, marine mammals, zoos and aquariums; and other guides covering all of science. If you are interested in marine biology, most of the general guides encompass marine biology so look at them too - don't confine yourself to the marine biology guides if you are interested in marine biology One place to find colleges offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in subjects like marine biology is Petersons at www.petersons.com/ GENERAL GUIDES

generation and propagation of anticyclonic rings in the Gulf of Papagayo , Costa Rica, are discussed in a manuscript recently submitted to the IJRS (html). River plume remote sensing The River San Juan, in the border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica, is one of the major rivers in Central America. It is the main source of fresh water, pollutants, sediments and nutrients to the Caribbean coastal zone of Nicaragua and Costa Rica. AVHRR and SeaWiFS derived images of suspended sediments, SST and chlorophyll reveal the distribution of the San Juan river water on the continental shelf of both countries. Data available Since 1994 we operate a Terascan satellite receiving station. We hold a large data archive derived from the NOAA and SeaStar near-polar orbiting satellites. Following an agreement between the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research and the Universidad Nacional our archive can be browsed on-line and 1 Km High Resolution Picture Transmition (HRPT) images can be requested for research purpopses. Sea Surface Temperature (SST) and near-surface chlorophyll-a concentration (Chla) quicklook images in gif format are available here. Our data spans the region 15 S to 30 N, 105 W to 70 W.

The Texas Institute of Oceanography: Fostering Research and Education on the Coast
By Rahilla C.A. Shatto Center for Marine Life Sciences , the Texas Center for Climate Studies , and the Center for Texas Beaches and Shores . The affiliated Galveston Bay Information Center provides a collection of resources concerning the environment of Galveston Bay. The Center for Marine Life Sciences (CMLS) , directed by Dr. Andre Landry, Jr., collaborates with researchers to provide facilities which help promote excellence in marine-life research and education. Its programs include the Marine Mammal Research Program (MMRP), the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (TMMSN), and the Sea Turtle Biology and Fisheries Ecology Research Programs. Dr. Bernd Wursig leads MMRP which studies cetaceans and sirenians that populate the Gulf of Mexico and the world's oceans. The program integrates behavioral, physiological, and population data from live-animal studies with toxicological information obtained from dead mammals in order to understand environmental effects on marine mammal health. Wursig works with students in the COASTCET branch of MMRP to identify and track bottlenose dolphins along Texas shores. The three-year GULFCET program led by Dr. Randall Davis, sponsored by the Minerals Management Service, surveys dolphin and whale populations in the Gulf of Mexico. Oceanographic data from satellites and hydrographic surveys help identify habitats while researchers in planes and boats track cetaceans.

FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY
Florida State University offers both master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees in oceanography. We have specializations in biological, physical, geological, and chemical oceanography. Many graduates from the Department of Oceanography hold research positions in industry, private research institutions, and federal and state laboratories and regulatory agencies. Some graduates teach here or abroad. Many international graduates have returned home to work for their local governments and private entities. The placement of our graduates attests to the quality and integrity of this fine oceanography program. Applicants to the Florida State University, Department of Oceanography are encouraged to directly contact faculty members whose research interests and expertise correspond to their own. The department admits students based on faculty sponsors. For additional information on the Florida State University admission process, contact the university online at: www.fsu.edu
