Regional air quality Air quality management by public authorities at regional scale involves control, planning, and forecasting issues. ARIANET contributes to the design and set up of modelling systems integrating the information coming from existing regional monitoring networks. Simulation systems enhance in time and space such information, allowing to point out the mechanisms governing strong pollution episodes, to estimate the contribution of different emission sectors, and to study the effects of possible alternative scenarios, either on short or long term (environmental restoration plans, traffic regional plans).
Regional air quality modelling system
Regional emission inventory: diffuse, line and point sources
Emissions inventory The formulation of regional scale air quality control policies must be based on the knowledge of the emissions coming from the whole set of activities and infrastructures located on the territory: industrial settlements, road networks, urban and agricultural areas, energy production and waste treatment plants. Some problems may be also connected to the emissions coming from natural sources, like land erosion, volcanic activity, and the organic compounds produced by vegetation. The realization of a comprehensive emission inventory for a given area is often a time consuming work, involving the collection and harmonization of digital cartography, statistical and experimental data, frequently coming from unsystematic sources.

Industrial Meteorology in the National Weather Service
Private sector organizations, ranging from consultants to the media to information service companies, are vital to meeting America's needs for weather information. These organizations, often referred to as the Industrial Meteorology (IM) community, together serve as critical intermediaries to make National Weather Service (NWS) information available to all and to provide specialized services outside the NWS mission. This part of the NWS web site indexes information of interest to the IM community. The reorganization of NWS Headquarters , effective October 8, 2000, produced a more modern and effective headquarters structure with an enhanced ability to support the Industrial Meteorology community, primarily through two headquarters offices:
  • The Strategic Planning and Policy Office (SPPO) organizes the NWS strategic planning process and addresses policy issues which affect the agency as a whole including the partnership between the NWS and the Industrial Meteorology community.

Meteorology
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Meteorology is the study of the atmosphere that focuses on weather processes and forecasting. Meteorological phenomena are observable weather events which illuminate and are explained by the science of meteorology. Those events are bound by the variables that exist in Earth 's atmosphere. They are temperature pressure water vapor , and the gradients and interactions of each variable, and how they change in time. The majority of Earth's observed weather is located in the troposphere Meteorology, climatology atmospheric physics and atmospheric chemistry are sub-disciplines of the atmospheric sciences Table of contents 1 History of meteorology

A Gaussian plume model developed by Denmark's National Environmental Research Institute (NERI) that is recommended for environmental impact assessments of any planned new industrial sources. The model can be used at distances up to 20 km for high or low sources, one or more point sources, or area sources. It is not suitable for complex terrain and it requires input data on emissions and meteorology on an hourly basis.
