Updated: 2/24/2004 webmaster@isgs.uiuc.edu Research Highlights Antioch Quadrangle Geologic Maps and 3-D Model Delivered to USGS
The final contract technical report, 6 geologic map products and a three-dimensional digital geologic model of the quadrangle were delivered to US Geological Survey officials during the annual meeting of the members of Central Great Lakes Geologic Mapping Coalition held in Indianapolis. The report presents the results of the three-year pilot study during which various protocols for geologic mapping of the complex glacial deposits, geophysical techniques, and database management were tested and implemented. A compact disc containing pdf files of the report, the maps and selected posters, the written protocols, and the data for the 3-D model has been prepared for distribution to the members of the coalition and to selected agencies and clients. Members of the mapping team also met with Lake County officials and representatives of the USDA-NRCS soils survey mapping team for Lake County to discuss the deliverables from the Coalition's 3-D mapping of the Antioch Quadrangle. Further meetings are scheduled to discuss opportunities for information transfer and data-sharing. (Contacts:

<5% of the surface flows; Garcia et al., 1995), suggesting that the source for Loihi lavas is drifting closer to the center of the Hawaiian hotspot rising up from a fixed location in the Earth's mantle. This reasoning is based on the fact that tholeiites are produced from higher melting temperatures in the mantle than alkalic lavas.
