  • Background
The Center for Energy and Environmental Policy (CEEP) supports master's and doctoral study in the College of Human Resources, Education and Public Policy at the University of Delaware. Research and instruction in areas of energy and environmental policy has been supported through CEEP and its predecessor since 1980. In 1993, CEEP was provided a development grant to support the expansion of Center academic and research programs into the areas of environmental justice and sustainable development. In 1997, the University of Delaware created two new degrees in CEEP: the Master of Environmental and Energy Policy (MEEP) and the Ph.D. in Environmental and Energy Policy (Ph.D.-EEP). The Center is composed of an internationally diverse faculty and graduate student body with backgrounds in a variety of disciplines including political science, economics, sociology, geography, philosophy, urban planning, environmental studies, history, and engineering.

Union College Program at a glance
The Environmental Studies Program at Union has exciting course and research opportunities related to the current issues and problems that face our environment. The Program offers students opportunities in three main academic areas: Environmental Policy, Environmental Science, and Environmental Engineering. Few programs in the liberal arts setting are able to integrate environmental engineering into the curriculum as we do, and for this reason our program provides an important extra dimension to understanding environmental problems. Students find the Environmental Studies Program useful as they embark on careers in environmental science, engineering applications to environmental problems, environmental management in the public and private sectors, teaching, business, politics, or law. Listed below are the principal themes of both courses and research by faculty in each of the main areas of Environmental Studies, as well as some course offerings in each area. Field studies are a key component of many of our course offerings and international programs. 1) Environmental Policy * Economic impact of environmental policy issues.

The M.S.E. degree is open to students with an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering degree or demonstrated equivalent. The M.S.E. degree is typically a 9-month program based on coursework alone. However, M.S.E. students may optionally complete an independent research project, submitted as a formal essay. The program requires a minimum of 30 credits that includes no more than 1 credit of seminar and no more than six credits of independent research. The M.S.E. degree with significant research components will usually require three to four semesters for completion. Prerequisites for the M.S.E. program include mathematics through differential equations and computing skills. Contaminant Fate and Transport, Environmental Process Engineering, Environmental Management and Economics, and Water Resources Engineering require one course in applied mathematics, e.g. 570.495, numerical analysis, or engineering mathematics. Contaminant Fate and Transport, Environmental Process Engineering, and Water Resources Engineering require as prerequisite an introductory fluid mechanics course. The program in Contaminant Fate and Transport also requires one semester each of general and organic chemistry. If any of these prerequisites are lacking, they can be taken as part of the course of study, but the credits will not be counted toward the 30 credit requirement.

    Course Information
Print this page The Faculty of Engineering at the University of Calgary has developed a multi-disciplinary graduate level environmental engineering program with advice from Calgary's industrial community. The program is designed to meet the needs of practicing environmental professionals in Calgary, as well as national and international graduate students. At present, more than 60 full-time and part-time graduate students are enrolled in the program. The program courses are offered mostly in the evenings to facilitate participation of "downtown" environmental professionals . Professionals with a BSc in engineering and science disciplines are eligible for enrollment in our courses. Practicing professionals may enroll as unclassified or part-time graduate students. The Faculty of Graduate Studies may allow these courses as advanced credit towards graduate degrees (see Faculty of Graduate Studies Calendar for full details).

The Department of Life Sciences includes instructional programs in Biology, Environmental Science, and Geology. The Department offers Bachelor of Science programs in Biology and Environmental Science with Geology fulfilling a service to the other areas, Environmental Science in particular. All of the disciplines provide courses that fulfill the University core curriculum requirements. Resources and Facilities Biology New technology, which is rapidly changing the way of life of man and domesticated plants and animals, has impacted the world of nature in complex ways. Biology, the study of life forms and living processes, provides tools for understanding the natural world and man's place in it. Certain fields of biology, such as molecular biology and genetic engineering, promise to have profound impact on human society and the environment. Biological scientists employ observation and experimentation together with modeling techniques to develop biological knowledge. Students of biology prepare for careers in teaching, research, or industry, or for medical school, veterinary science, forestry, or dentistry, or they may plan to pursue postbaccalaureate studies in the life or environmental sciences.
