XML::Parser Module Enables XML Development in Perl
November 25, 1998 XML (Extensible Markup Language) is emerging as a core standard for Web development. Now a new Perl module (or extension) known as XML::Parser allows Perl programmers building applications to use XML, and provides an efficient, easy way to parse XML documents. XML::Parser is built upon a C library, expat, that is very fast and robust. Expat was authored by James Clark, a highly respected leader in the SGML/XML community. Perl, expat and XML::Parser are all Unicode-aware; that is, they read encoding declarations and perform necessary conversions into Unicode, a system for "the interchange, processing, and display of the written texts of the diverse languages of the modern world" (

The term you selected is being presented by searchWebServices.com, a TechTarget site for Web Services professionals. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a flexible way to create common information formats and share both the format and the data on the World Wide Web, intranets, and elsewhere. For example, computer makers might agree on a standard or common way to describe the information about a computer product (processor speed, memory size, and so forth) and then describe the product information format with XML. Such a standard way of describing data would enable a user to send an intelligent agent (a program) to each computer maker's Web site, gather data, and then make a valid comparison. XML can be used by any individual or group of individuals or companies that wants to share information in a consistent way. XML, a formal recommendation from the World Wide Web Consortium (

Proposed Technical Specification for Web Services Addressing and Referencing Framework.
In an open letter the W3C AC Forum, eleven major companies have proposed the creation of a new technical activity to bring about industry convergence in the area of Web Service Referencing and Addressing. A draft "strawman" proposal calls for a new working group that would have the participation of the entire web service community. The WG would produce a WS-Addressing and Referencing Framework Recommendation based upon WS-Addressing and WS-MessageDelivery.

An updated IETF Internet Draft has been published for "MTA Authentication Records in DNS," representing one of several current proposals aimed at design of mechanisms to reduce spoofing of email headers and delivery of (virus-bearing) spam. This specification relies upon XML infoset data items for a client authorization function and an Email Policy Document. Similar solutions are presented in Drafts for Sender Policy Framework (SPF), Caller ID, and 'RMX'.

1. XML on tarkoitettu rakenteisen tiedon esittämiseen
Rakenteinen tieto käsittää mm. taulukkolaskennan tiedostot, osoitekirjat, konfiguraatiotiedostot, sähköisen kaupankäynnin viestit sekä tekniset piirustukset. XML on joukko sääntöjä rakenteisen tiedon esittämiseen tarkoitettujen tekstiformaattien suunnitteluun.

175. Maki: A Python/XML-based Webserving Framework
An attempt to glue together a simple, flexible framework that allows you to use xml, XSLT, Apache, and Python to serve web pages. Open Source, GPL
http://maki.sourceforge.net/
maki is a webserving framework built on Python and XML. It allows a web developer to send an XML input document through any number of steps, where each step is either a stylesheet transformation or a custom process. A processor that evaluates embedded Python code is included. The output of each step is passed as the input to the next step (similar to a Unix pipe). Additionally, the output of each processor step can be cached for a user-specified time period. All configuration is done in XML files that allow you to specify rules based on matching paths against Unix-style wildcard patterns or regular expressions.

Guha
This document provides an overview of the plans for XML in Mozilla.
Background
There are two broad categories of use for XML.
  • Documents.
  • Data. For data, RDF build on top of XML makes most sense. Tim BL has a really good document on this. Look here for more information on this distinction. For more on RDF in Mozilla look here This figure shows the (planned) architecture for XML in Mozilla. The arrows represent C/Java/Javascript APIs.

    XML Parser
Mozilla uses James Clark's expat parser (the same parser that is used in pearl). You will find it in ns/modules/xml/expat. Any module within Mozilla can use the parser. The APIs for the parser can be found at expat/xmlparse/xmlparse.h. ns/modules/xml/glue/ is the glue code that gets used in invoking the parser.
    DOM Structure
ns/modules/xml/xmldom/ builds a persistent tree structure (the DOM structure) on top of this. There is work going on to expose the APIs to the parser and to the DOM

    XML Reflection for CORBA
Steve Vinoski and Douglas C. Schmidt
    Introduction
Some programming languages, such as Java and Smalltalk, support reflection or introspection . This feature allows applications written in these languages to obtain information about objects and classes at runtime, typically using this information to perform dynamic invocations. This information about objects and classes is commonly referred to as metadata and includes information on the number of methods in a class, the method signatures, and the dynamic size of objects. Of course, dynamic CORBA applications are possible as well, as we explained in our four-part series covering Dynamic CORBA [1]. An application that wants to dynamically discover metadata about objects at runtime uses the Interface Repository (IFR) [2]. Dynamic clients invoke operations using the Dynamic Invocation Interface (DII) [1], while dynamic server applications handle requests via the Dynamic Skeleton Interface (DSI) [3]. As we explained in our Dynamic CORBA series, CORBA's reflection facilities are hard and tedious to use. This isn't too much of a problem in practice for CORBA applications themselves, however, as most are static. In particular, most CORBA applications are written in statically typed languages, such as C++ or Java, and they contain static stubs and skeletons generated by an IDL compiler. As a result, CORBA clients and servers generally already know all the type information they need to make and serve requests, which is in fact a part of CORBA's design center. For example, CORBA's General Inter-ORB Protocol (GIOP) is designed such that no type information is passed as part of a request or a reply, instead requiring the sending and receiving applications to know argument and return types

Conversion from Microsoft Excel to xml format.
    http://rustemsoft.com/
General reasons to validate your business with XML Converter:
If you have put much energy in creating a circumstantial set of business templates, forms, and documents and now you would like them to be immediately viewable on your web site.
If you need to write web pages for filling-in the page content by the real data and want to spend minimal time at creation these pages.
If you want to convert Oracle tables, MS Access tables, MS Excel spreadsheets, MS Words documents, or text files to XML documents and preserve their appearance and internal logically formatted structures.
How do you convert Microsoft Excel data to XML format? Using XML Converter allows you to create XML document that will content the same data as your original MS Excel spreadsheet, MS Access database, Word document, Oracle database or text file. The resulting XML document will be built in strong compliance with XSL specifications. XML Converter allows you to create an XML database. This software gives you ability to generate an output as a set of XML tables. By using comprehensive interface you can adjust XML tags for final XML. Also this proved to be excellent because you can change the XSL style for XML output to what you wanted. The XML Converter is an XML smart data transformation system and development software that includes a runtime engine that dramatically reduces the time and cost of building and maintaining XML applications. How to read data from relational databases and transform that data into complex XML structures? The XML Converter allows you to structure that data any way to create XML documents for data exchange-XML, which can be transported to the Web or used in a Java application. This ware greatly simplifies integrating native legacy data into XML documents and XSLT transformations.
