History People Partners Research ... Links Web Spoofing Web Spoofing is a security attack that allows an adversary to observe and modify all web pages sent to the victim's machine, and observe all information entered into forms by the victim. Web Spoofing works on both of the major browsers and is not prevented by "secure" connections. The attacker can observe and modify all web pages and form submissions, even when the browser's "secure connection" indicator is lit. The user sees no indication that anything is wrong. The attack is implemented using JavaScript and Web server plug-ins, and works in two parts. First, the attacker causes a browser window to be created on the victim's machine, with some of the normal status and menu information replaced by identical-looking components supplied by the attacker. Then, the attacker causes all Web pages destined for the victim's machine to be routed through the attacker's server. On the attacker's server, the pages are rewritten in such a way that their appearance does not change at all, but any actions taken by the victim (such as clicking on a link) would be logged by the attacker. In addition, any attempt by the victim to load a new page would cause the newly-loaded page to be routed through the attacker's server, so the attack would continue on the new page. The attack is initiated when the victim visits a malicious Web page, or receives a malicious email message (if the victim uses an HTML-enabled email reader).

Online resources Part I Introduction Part II Embedded structures and several source documents Part III Dynamic XML with AxKit In order to present XML documents or data to the user in an attractive way in browser, mobile phone or PDF format, the original data must first be converted to the necessary formats. This is the purpose of XSLT as part of the style component of XML. I n November 1999, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) issued the XSL transformations, or XSLT for short, as a recommendation - a type of W3C standard. The purpose of this language, written in XML, is to allow webmasters and programmers to take XML data with any desired structure and use them to generate something which the server can supply to the user as an HTML page, a PDF document or in XML form. The processing of XML sources via an XSLT program basically means that the latter uses the source to generate a document tree and converts this to a result tree by executing the instructions specified in the stylesheet.

X12 EDI revolutionized business-to-business electronic commerce in the 1970s and 1980s, long before anyone knew to call it B2B e-commerce. X12 EDI today continues to provide a sound and secure solution for high volume messaging. As conflicting XML messages proliferate, ASC X12 is using its open, consensus-based standards process to create a new generation of e-business messaging, providing a foundation for tomorrow's technology environments. ASC X12's new XML architecture, called Context Inspired Component Architecture (CICA), enables individuals to build XML business documents in a cross-industry setting and ensures organizations a significant return on investment.

Licensees of NLM Data
U.S. National Library of Medicine
November 19, 1999 Summary:
NLM is approaching the final stages of its transition to a new data creation and maintenance system. We will phase out the legacy systems and move into the new processing streams beginning with MEDLINE in the early part of the year. Data will be distributed to licensees in NLM's new format during 2000. Databases other than MEDLINE will continue to be created in the legacy ELHILL Unit Record Format and distributed on tape until their production has transitioned to new systems. The new format is XML-based, the media is ftp (except for large amounts of data which will be distributed in the future on DLT tapes), and there is no cost for data distributed via ftp or DLT tape. The DTD, sample records in XML and ELHILL format, and a conversion tablet to assist in the transition from ELHILL Unit Record Format to XML format are provided at this time. Details of transition:
1. Weekly MEDLINE data available via ftp in XML format at no cost:

Product Description
Thematic Mapper (TM) is a multispectral scanning radiometer that was carried on board Landsats 4 and 5. The TM sensors have provided nearly continuous coverage from July 1982 to present, with a 16-day repeat cycle. TM image data consists of seven spectral bands ( band designations ) with a spatial resolution of 30 meters for most bands (1-5 and 7). Resolution for the thermal infrared (band 6) is 120 meters. The approximate scene size will be 170 x 183 kilometers (106 x 115 miles). The following level of correction is available to the general public:
  • Systematic Correction includes both radiometric and geometric correction. The scene will be rotated, aligned, and georeferenced to a user-defined map projection. Absolute geometric accuracy of the systematically corrected TM product can vary, depending upon the accuracy of the predicted ephemeris that is used for processing.

Understanding the CD: Bumps The elongated bumps that make up the track are each 0.5 microns wide, a minimum of 0.83 microns long and 125 nanometers high. (A nanometer is a billionth of a meter.) Looking through the polycarbonate layer at the bumps, they look something like this: You will often read about "pits" on a CD instead of bumps. They appear as pits on the aluminum side, but on the side the laser reads from, they are bumps. The incredibly small dimensions of the bumps make the spiral track on a CD extremely long. If you could lift the data track off a CD and stretch it out into a straight line, it would be 0.5 microns wide and almost 3.5 miles (5 km) long! To read something this small you need an incredibly precise disc-reading mechanism. Let's take a look at that.

Placement Formats, rev. 1.2
Work in progress : last updated Sat Nov 20 1999 Andrew Caldwell Andrew B. Kahng Igor Markov The proposed file formats flexibly capture seeral traditional problem formulations in standard-cell placement and partitioning. We maximized the ease of use and modularity. One normally does not need to specify information beyond what's needed in a particular context, since our formats define reasonable defaults for unspecified data. Constructing parsers should be straightforward, assuming that a hash_map implementation is available (e.g., as in g++2.95). Parsers may choose not to implement some of the features below, in which case they should issue relevant error messages when they encounter such unimplemented features. We plan to make publiclly available a suite of binary utilities and, possibly, a parser.

APE participants need only provide the subset of APE diagnostics from which all others can be derived. This minimum set reduces the required diagnostics to the GT, SH, TR, ML, MF and PF tables ( see APE diagnostic specifications The diagnostics listed in GA, SZ, MZ, TE and VB will be derived later from the minimum set. We are exploiting the efforts of many who have worked to develop data standards for the climate research community. While a little investment is required to become familiar with the conventions, it is important to realize the benefit: this community activity is working towards a common means of data exchange that will be applicable for many other WCRP projects (e.g., AMIP and CMIP). The data standards described below presume that APE models have recti-linear longitude-latitude grids or are interpolated to such a grid. Gaussian grids are of course acceptable, unless the number of longitude points varies with latitude. To ensure that APE data can be efficiently managed and results rapidly analyzed

http://shay.ecn.purdue.edu/~frdata/FRData/DataSets.html
Data Set Information
Each data set usually represents the data for one experiment and instrument. In some cases the data for an experiment includes a separate file for each date.
Data File Downloading Instructions
The data files are in ascii format. You can view the data file directly with a World Wide Web viewer; however some of the files are quite large. Data files can be downloaded, when available, when you are on the Experiment Summary page for a given year. The 'hot link' to download is entitled 'Download Data File' which is at the end of the summary information for the experiment. Use the options provided by your World Wide Web viewer to load the data file to disk. It is best to download the files in "text" format not "source" format.
Data File Format Description and Documentation Tables
The file is in ascii format in lines of 80 characters for convenient transfer between microcomputers and easy review on computer display screens; this was more important during the mid '80's than it is now but the files have not changed since then. The format of the ascii file is described by the following.
