    Artificial Intelligence
As a theory in the philosophy of mind, artificial intelligence (or AI) is the view that human cognitive mental states can be duplicated in computing machinery. Accordingly, an intelligent system is nothing but an information processing system. Discussions of AI commonly draw a distinction between weak and strong AI. Weak AI holds that suitably programmed machines can simulate human cognition. Strong AI, by contrast, maintains that suitably programmed machines are capable of cognitive mental states. The weak claim is unproblematic, since a machine which merely simulates human cognition need not have conscious mental states. It is the strong claim, though, that has generated the most discussion, since this does entail that a computer can have cognitive mental states. In addition to the weak/strong distinction, it is also helpful to distinguish between other related notions. First, cognitive simulation is when a device such as a computer simply has the same the same input and output as a human. Second, cognitive replication occurs when the same internal causal relations are involved in a computational device as compared with a human brain. Third, cognitive

    email me

my current area of research is intelligent image processing; over the past few weeks i've been working on some image processing software using a hopfield neural network architecture.
follow the links below to see some results from the various routines i've written
    hopfield image recognizer

i began by programming a hopfield image recognizer which stores a collection images, then when presented with a new image the network responds with an image generated from the stored images.
    hopfield super-resolution

the second routine i've programmed uses a hopfield architecture for image interpolation. the network effectively improves the resolution of an image by estimating pixel values between known pixel values. super-resolution will be my primary area of research.
here are some screen shots from the software in action:

More What's New Professor Horst Bunke (Universitat Bern) has served as an Editor-in-Charge of the International Journal of Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence since its launch in 1987. He has played a vital role along with Prof. Patrick Wang, co-Editor-in-Charge, in the development and success of the journal. But citing personal and professional reasons, Prof. Bunke has decided to hand over his duties to another Editorial Board member Prof. Xiaoyi Jiang (University of Munster, Germany). However, he will continue to serve as an Associate Editor for IJPRAI. We warmly welcome Prof. Jiang as the new Editor-in-Charge of IJPRAI, and look forward to his enthusiasm in the ongoing success of the journal. We are also pleased to note that Prof. Patrick Wang will carry on his duties as the co-Editor-in-Charge. http://www.ai.uga.edu/
Artificial intelligence is the computer modeling of intelligent behavior, including but not limited to modeling the human mind. We see it as an interdisciplinary field where computer science intersects with philosophy psychology linguistics engineering , and other fields. The Artificial Intelligence Center is an interdepartmental research and instructional center within the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Georgia . Strengths include logic programming, expert systems, neural nets, genetic algorithms, and natural language processing. The Artificial Intelligence Center also houses the undergraduate degree program in Cognitive Science. It is through a combination of these studies we feel intelligence can be best understood and thus replicated. Affiliated with this department are over 75 people hailing from over 10 different countries. We pride ourselves on the diversity of our student body and the ability of our program to allow for the pursuit of personal research interests. Important Announcements: PAIW 2004
