Antonio Vivaldi: Baroque composer
Antonio Vivaldi the Baroque composer's life and works are captured in this brief article.
Antonio Vivaldi was born in Venice on March fourth, 1678. His first job was as a priest he was ordained in 1703, at 25. However, due to various physical complaints (he talked about tightness in his chest), he left the church after only a year. He had become a priest against his own will, because his family was poor and the training was free. Vivaldi was mainly an opera writer. He is also famous, however, for his many concertos, especially the favored Four Seasons. Many of such pieces that he wrote early in his career (early 1700s) were for an orphanage, where he was the violin teacher. This orphanage was not really an orphanage at all, but a home for daughters of noblemen and their mistresses. These concertos which Vivaldi wrote for them were actually playing exercises for the talented young musicians. bodyOffer(27979) In 1717, he lived in Mantua in order to provide operas, cantatas, and some concert music to Landgrave Philips van Hessen-Darmstadt. His official title was Chamber Kapellmeister of the court. In 1720 he moved back to Venice. It was at this time that he met Anna Giraud, who from then on lived with him. He denied that she was anything more than a friend. Her sister, Paolina also lived with them. Vivaldi composed quite a bit. In only a month he composed three operas for two different cities Florence and Venice. He was also writing two concertos a month, for which he received one ducat each. These concertos were sent to Ospedale della Dieta, with whom hed made a deal. He had agreed to send the two concertos each month, and his presence was then not required. These concertos were very successful, especially in France. This is shown because he did a bit of work for French royalty, such as his serenade La Sena Festeggiante, which was written for Louis XV.

war ein berühmter Geiger, Komponist und Kapellmeister in Venedig und Mantua. Er wurde am 4. März 1678 in Venedig geboren und starb am 28. Juli 1741 in Wien.

Word association time. Say ``Johann Strauss,'' and the first thing that should pop into one's mind is ``waltz.'' Giuseppe Verdi? Grand opera, of course. Antonio Vivaldi? A specific word might not come to mind, but a definite sound should - fast, chipper, stutteringly rhythmic. Vivaldi was not the greatest composer of the Baroque era (the most talented composers between 1600 and 1750 were Bach, Handel, Corelli and Monteverdi). But he is certainly one of the most popular, and the music form known as the concerto derives its present features largely from the work of this man known as the Red Priest. Red-haired Vivaldi became a priest in 1703, but was almost immediately excused from saying Mass. He claimed to be incapacitated by illness, probably asthma. Illness did not prevent him from getting a job that year at the Conservatorio delta Pieta, a girls' orphanage in Venice that emphasized music education. Vivaldi taught violin to the girls, and wrote hundreds of works to be performed by the Pieta's excellent orchestra. Asthmatic or not, in 1713 Vivaldi took a working leave of absence, probably to compose an opera. From that time on he spent a great deal of time away from the Pieta, producing his operas all over Italy and hobnobbing with nobility. During this period, publication of some of his orchestral works brought him fame throughout Europe.

    Antonio Vivaldi
Antonio Vivaldi (Il Prete Rosso) was an Italian priest and music composer, who was born in Venice, Italy, (March 41678) and died in Vienna, Austria, July 28, 1741. His father, a barber and a talented violinist himself (some have said he was a virtuoso ), had helped him in trying a career in music and made him enter the Cappella di San Marco orchestra, where he was an appreciated violinist. In 1703 Vivaldi became a priest, soon nicknamed Il Prete Rosso , "The Red Priest", probably because of his red hair. In 1704 he was dispensed from celebrating the Holy Mass because of his unhealthy conditions (he suffered of asthma), and became violin teacher at an orphanage for girls called Ospedale della Pietà in Venice. The orphans little after started to gain appreciation and esteem, abroad too; Vivaldi wrote for them most of his concertos, cantate and sacred music. In 1705 the first collcetion ( raccolta ) of his works was published. Many others will follow. Inside the orphanage he covered several charges, with the only interruption for his many travels, and in 1713 became the responsible for the musical activity of the institute. He was indeed a prolific composer and is most well-known for composing:
    • over 500 concertos (210 of which for violin or violoncello solo
    • 46 Operas
