Christian Magnus Falsen Sinding-Larsen
Norwegian physician, born April 17, 1866, Kristiania (now Oslo; died February 12, 1930, Oslo.
Associated eponyms: Sinding-Larsen and Johansson syndrome Osteochondrosis involving apex of patella. Reckoned among the aseptic necroses of bone. Also known as Larsen-Johansson syndrome, Mau’s syndrome, Sinding-Larsen’s disease. Biography: Christian Magnus Falsen Sinding-Larsen gradated in medicine in 1891. He subsequently worked as an assistant at the Rikshospitalet in Kristiania (now Oslo). He became physician, later physician-in-chief, at kysthospitalet (the Coastal Hospital) in Fredriksværn (now Stavern) in 1892. During the next twenty years he undertook several education journeys, visiting Denmark, Germany, Austria, Belgium, France. He obtained his medical doctorate in 1907 with a dissertation on tuberculous coxitis, and in 1911 he was appointed director of Rikshospitalet, the national research hospital. An outstanding administrator, Sinding-Larsen remained in this position until his death in 1930.

He lived in Germany for much of his life, but received regular grants from the Norwegian government. In 1920-21 he went to the United States of America to teach composition at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York . He died in Oslo. The large number of short, lyrical piano pieces and songs that Sinding wrote has led to many seeing him as the heir to his fellow countryman, Edvard Grieg . Sinding is best remembered today for one of those piano works, "Frühlingsrauschen" (Rustle of Spring, 1896). Among his other works - which are rarely performed - are four symphonies , three violin concertos , a piano concerto, chamber music and an opera Der Heilige Berg (The Holy Mountain, 1914).

    Christian Sinding - Biografi Christian Sinding ble født 11/1 1856 på Kongsberg. Det lå betydelige kunstnerbegavelser i familien; maleren Otto Sinding og billedhoggeren Stephan Sinding var hans brødre, og Christian var tidlig klar over sin musikalske begavelse. Han ville utdanne seg som fiolinist, og fikk ved siden av sin skolegang fiolinundervisning hos Gudbrand Bøhn og undervisning i musikkteori hos L.M. Lindeman. I 1874 reiste han til Leipzig for å fortsette sin musikkutdannelse ved konservatoriet der. Hans lærere var H.Schradiek (fiolin) og C. Reinecke og S. Jadassohn (teori og komposisjon).
    I løpet av sin studietid ble han klar over at det var som komponist han hadde sitt egentlige felt, og la etter hvert hovedvekten på denne siden av sin utdannelse. Studietida i Leipzig varte med noen avbrytelser i ca. 4 år, men den resulterte ikke i noe umiddelbart gjennombrudd for ham som komponist. Sindings egentlige gjennombruddsverk er hans klaverkvintett i e-moll (op. 5) som ble oppført første gang i 1885.
