    Schuller, Gunther (born New York City, 22 November 1925).
    He studied at the St. Thomas Choir School (1938-42) and had a career as a horn player, notably at the Met (1945-59). He has taught at Tanglewood (from 1963) and was an innovatory, energetic president of the New England Conservatory (1967-77). He has conducted internationally (notably new music), studied jazz and produced a large output, mostly of orchestral and chamber music, but also opera (including The Visitation , 1966). His works draw on , Babbitt, Stravinsky , and jazz.

    Schuller has also been active in music publishing and recording, forming his own companies in both fields (Margun Music and GunMar Music and GM Records). He has also written extensively on jazz and, apart from numerous magazine articles, he is the author of an important trilogy tracing the history of jazz, of which the first two volumes are Early Jazz: Its Roots And Musical Development (1968) and The Swing Era: The Development Of Jazz, 1930-1945 (1989). He has two jazz musician sons, bass player Ed Schuller (b. 11 January 1955, New York City, New York, USA), and drummer George Schuller (b. 29 December 1958, New York City, New York, USA).     Conductors John Farrer Kenneth Kiesler — A prominent and versatile conductor, Mr. Kiesler was named music director of the New Hampshire Symphony Orchestra in 2002 and continues as Professor of Conducting and Director of University Orchestras at the University of Michigan. He has guest conducted numerous symphonies (National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, the Chicago Symphony at Orchestra Hall, the Utah, Detroit, New Jersey, Florida, Indianapolis, Memphis, and San Diego symphonies; the orchestras of Albany, Virginia, Omaha, Fresno, Long Beach, Long Island and Portland, the Texas Chamber Orchestra, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra) and appeared at several festivals (Meadowbrook, Skaneateles, Sewanee, Breckenridge, and Aspen) as well.
