Introduction (born Palermo, 2 May 1660; died Naples, 22 October 1725).
Father of Domenico Scarlatti When he was 12 he was sent to Rome, where he may have studied with Carissimi. He married in 1678 and later that year was appointed maestro di cappella of San Giacomo degli Incurabili (now 'in Augusta'). By then he had already composed at least one opera (the title is unknown and it was not performed) and a second, Gli equivoci nel sembiante , was a resounding success in 1679. It confirmed Scarlatti in his chosen career as an opera composer and attracted the attention of Queen Christina of Sweden, who made him her maestro di cappella In 1684 Scarlatti was appointed maestro di cappella at the vice-regal court of Naples, at the same time as his brother Francesco was made first violinist. It was alleged that they owed their appointments to the intrigues of one of their sisters (apparently Melchiorra) with two court officials, who were dismissed. For the next two decades over half the new operas given at Naples were by Scarlatti. Two of them, Il Pirro e Demetrio (1694) and La caduta dei Decemviri (1697), were especially successful, but by 1700 the War of the Spanish Succession was beginning to undermine the privileged status of the Neapolitan nobility, rendering Scarlatti's position insecure. In 1702 he left with his family for Florence, where he hoped to find employment for himself and his son

Scarlatti enjoyed the patronage of Ferdinando de' Medici in the first decade of the 18th century. The cultured prince - who supported the ambitious inventions of Bartolomeo Cristofori while he developed the 'cembalo col forte e piano' - commissioned several operas from Alessandro. The composer could not often attend to direct the productions, and he entrusted some of his ideas about his music to the prince.

Introduction (born Naples, 26 October 1685; died Madrid, 23 July 1757).
Son of Alessandro Scarlatti In 1701 he was appointed organist and composer of the vice-regal court at Naples, where his father was maestro di cappella . The following year he took leave of absence and travelled with the family to Florence where Alessandro hoped for employment from Pnnce Ferdinando de' Medici. When this was not forthcoming Domenico returned to Naples, where he tried his hand at opera before his father removed him in 1705 and sent him to Venice to try his luck there. It may have been in Venice that he first met Handel , with whom he formed a strong attachment. (Another friendship made in Italy was with Thomas Roseingrave, who later championed Scarlatti's music in England and Ireland.) By 1707, however, Scarlatti was in Rome, assisting his father at San Maria Maggiore, and he remained in Rome for over 12 years, occupying posts as maestro to the dowager Queen of Poland from 1711, to the Marquis de Fontes from 1714, and at St. Peter's (assistant

Alessandro Scarlatti
Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) was a Baroque musiccomposer. He was the father of Domenico Scarlatti . He was born in Sicily, either at Trapani or Palermo, on May 2, 1660. He is generally said to have been a pupil of Carissimi in Rome, and there is reason to suppose that he had some connexion with northern Italy, since his early works show the influence of Stradella and Legrenzi. The production at Rome of his opera Gli Equivoci nell'amore Telemaco Marco Attilio Regoló Griselda , 1721), as well as some noble specimens of church music, including a mass for chorus and orchestra, composed in honor of St Cecilia for Cardinal Acquaviva in 1721. His last work on a large scale appears to have been the unfinished serenata for the marriage of the prince of Stigliano (1723); he died at Naples on October 24, 1725.
Scarlatti's music forms the most important link between the tentative "new music" of the 17th century and the classical school of the 18th, which culminated in Mozart . His early operas ( Gli Equivoci nel sembiante L'Honestà negli amors Fompeo (1683), containing the well-known airs "0 cessate di piagarmi" and "Toglietemi la vita ancor," and others down to about 1685) retain the older cadences in their recitatives, and a considerable variety of neatly constructed forms in their charming little arias, accompanied sometimes by the string quartet, treated with careful elaboration, sometimes by the harpsichord alone. By 1686 he had definitely established the "Italian overture" form (second edition of

Scarlatti, Alessandro (1660 - 1725)
Alessandro Scarlatti, a native of Palermo, made his principal career in Naples, where he was instrumental in the development of 18th century Neapolitan opera. He wrote more than a hundred operas and some six hundred cantatas, a considerable amount of church music and a smaller number of purely instrumental works. An important and influential composer, the nature of his compositions particularly with changed fashions in opera and less appetite for cantatas, serenades and oratorios of this period, has led to otherwise unjustified current neglect, in spite of Scarlatti’s extreme fecundity.

Komponisten Alessandro Scarlatti Biographie Die Werke Opern Photo Gallery ...
