From 1976-1981 she studied composition with Paavo Heininen at the Sibelius Academy and from 1981-1982 with Brian Ferneyhough and Klaus Huber at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg. In 1982 she followed courses in computer music at Ircam in Paris, where she has been living and working since then. Several of her compositions were awarded a.o. Stilleben (Prix Italia 1988, Ars Electronica prize 1989), Io (Ars Electronica prize 1989) and Lonh (The Nordic Music Prize 2000). On her music Sensitive, colourful, refreshing and modernist.
