Biography
Rossini was born into a family of musicians in Pesaro, a small town on the Adriatic coast of Italy . His father Giuseppe was town trumpeter and inspector of slaughterhouses, his mother Anna a singer and baker's daughter. Rossini's parents began his musical training early, and by the age of six he was playing the triangle in his father's band. Rossini's father was sympathetic to the French, and welcomed Napoleon 's troops when they arrived in Northern Italy. This became a problem when in , the Austrians restored the old regime. Rossini's father was sent to prison, and his wife took Gioacchino to Bologna , earning her living as lead singer at various theatres of the Romagna region, where she was ultimately joined by her husband. During this time, Gioacchino was frequently left in the care of his aging grandmother, who was unable to effectively control the boy.

Introduction (born Pesaro, 29 February 1792; died Passy, 13 November 1868). Both his parents were musicians, his father a horn player, his mother a singer; he learnt the horn and singing and as a boy sang in at least one opera in Bologna, where the family lived. He studied there and began his operatic career when, at 18, he wrote a one-act comedy for Venice. Further commissions followed, from Bologna, Ferrara, Venice again and Milan, where La pietra del paragone was a success at La Scala in 1812. This was one of seven operas written in 16 months, all but one of them comic. This level of activity continued in the ensuing years. His first operas to win international acclaim come from 1813, written for different Venetian theatres: the serious Tancredi and the farcically comic L'italiana in Algeri , the one showing a fusion of lyrical expression and dramatic needs, with its crystalline melodies, arresting harmonic inflections and colourful orchestral writing, the other moving easily between the sentimental, the patriotic, the absurd and the sheer lunatic. Two operas for Milan were less successful. But in 1815 Rossini went to Naples as musical and artistic director of the Teatro San Carlo, which led to a concentration on serious opera. But he was allowed to compose for other theatres, and from this time date two of his supreme comedies, written for Rome

GIOACCHINO ROSSINI By Addi
Gioacchino Rossini was an Italian composer who wrote many operas. He is most
famous for an opera titled "The Barber of Seville," written in 1813. He also wrote four to
five operas a year, at one point in his life. Gioacchino was born in Pesaro, Italy on February 29, 1792. His mother and father
both worked in the opera. His mother was a singer and his father was a trumpet player. When Rossini was four, his mother took him to Bologna, Italy. There she found
singing engagements. While his mother was singing, he was taking music lessons. In
1804 Rossiniâs family settled in Bologna. By the time he was a teenager he had started to
write music. Rossini wrote his first opera when he was seventeen. That opera is called
"Demetrio e Polibio." His first opera to be performed on stage was written when he was
eighteen, and is called "La cambiale di matrimonio." That opera was performed in
Venice, Italy. At this point in Rossiniâs life, he had started to write many operas. Some of his comic operas are: "The Italian Girl in Algiers" (1816), "The Silken Ladder," "The Turk
