erez, David [Davide] (b Naples, 1711; d Lisbon, 30 Oct 1778) was recognized in his time as one of the greatest Italian composers. 18th-century critics often ranked Perez with Hasse and Jommelli. Burney found 'an original spirit and elegance in all his production'. While he was essentially a transitional figure in 18th-century opera, he was nevertheless one of the great composers of opera seria. However was in his later compositions for the church that Perez had the possibility to develop most his style. His is one of the finest corpus of music for the Roman Catholic rituals in the 18th century. ot much is known about Perez's output. Consequently, during the research for my PhD dissertation, I felt the need to compile this list of his church music, and to make a few marginal observations on it. any pieces were originally collected by confraternities: this was the case with the ones that there are today in Palermo conservatory (originally from the Santa Casa degli Spersi), in the Filippini Oratorians archives in Rome and Naples, and part of the collections of the Biblioteca Nacional and the Fábrica da Sé (the pieces which came from the confraternity of Santa Cecilia) in Lisbon, and of the Neapolitan conservatory. oldings in other libraries are a result of the diffusion through the missionary work of the church: Perez's music reached Assisi through copies made in Lisbon, as a sign of devotion, by a franciscan, Alessandro Vivarelli, who had been a pupil of Francesco Zuccari, chapel master in the Basilica of Saint Francis. By its own nature, missionary work could take music to unsuspected places, such  as Pannonhalma in Hungary, where the Jesuit church of Györ (Raab) had, before the expelling of the order in 1773, a luxuriant musical life.

MANILA, OCTOBER 30, 2003 (STAR) By Mayen Jaymalin - Amid the mudslinging and brickbats and politicians basking in media attention, the real victims seem to have been abandoned and forgotten — over 1,300 court employees who are unable to claim what is due them. The Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees (Courage) through its president Ferdinand Gaite pointed out that court employees nationwide continue to be neglected. He said the judiciary rank and file receive lower salaries and fewer benefits than justices and judges who were earlier granted a 100 percent increase in allowances after going on mass leave. Gaite condemned public officials and politicians, saying they blew up the impeachment of Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. to suit their interests and forgot the plight of court employees. "Politicians have been basking in the limelight brought about by the issue. But after that’s been said and done, there is one affected party left out in the cold –the thousands of court employees," Gaite said. He noted that the court employees were the ones who brought out the issue of the Judicial Development Fund being misused by the Supreme Court. While investigating the complaint, Congress enacted a law granting a 100 percent increase in the allowances of justices and judges.

ARCHIVES DAILY WEEKLY Davide ready to open books to employes By CHELOY GARAFIL On the eve of scheduled oral arguments on the validity of the second impeachment complaint against him, Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. yesterday not only agreed to open the books on the Judiciary Development Fund to court employees but also promised them more financial benefits, according to Jojo Guerrero, president of the Supreme Court Employees Association. The oral arguments are scheduled at 10 a.m. today at the new Supreme Court Session Hall. Guerrero told mediamen Davide has assured them he would give a full accounting of the expenses and disbursements of the JDF under his watch. In a letter addressed to court employees, Davide also promised them more benefits not only under the JDF but also from other sources. "I will also propose to the Supreme Court en banc measures to alleviate your condition, including the exclusion of justices and judges from the 80 percent share for cost of living allowance," he said. The decree that created the JDF says 80 percent should go to the allowances and other benefits of court employes.

The Public Information Office headed by Ismael Khan had invited media people to the conference with Jose Perez and Christopher Locke, deputy court administrators; Corazon Ordoñez, chief of the Financial Management and Budget Office; and lawyers John Javier and Antonio Dujua to clarify issues regarding the JDF. The conference turned hot after a reporter asked about allegations of nepotism on the part of Davide who has appointed his two children, Joseph Bryan Hilary and Noreen Davide-Salas, to sen-sitive committees in the SC. Joseph Bryan Hilary, who is his father's chief of staff, was named co-chairman in the working committee for the Halls of Justice, co-chair of the selection and promotion board, co-chair of the personnel and development committee, vice chairman for the committee on protocol, member of task force on the annual award for excellence and the judicial excellence award committee, and vice chairman of the bids and awards committee (BAC).

Davide Jr. Mr. Ikeda's first meeting with Chief Justice Davide and his wife, Dr. Virginia Perez-Davide, in Tokyo (March 2002) In "Life is Wonderful" appearing in Saturday's Seikyo Shimbun, SGI President Daisaku Ikeda writes about discussions he held with Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario G. Davide Jr. of the Republic of the Philippines in Tokyo in March 2002. Reflecting on their meeting, Mr. Ikeda writes that he had been deeply impressed with a practice Chief Justice Davide had shared with him. At the beginning of all court sessions in the Philippines, justices offer a nondenominational prayer for their judgments to be based on universal wisdom and to contribute to truth, justice, and peace. Mr. Davide's opinion was that the true mission of a judge is that of a peacemakerto assist parties in conflict to reach an amicable settlement and to contribute to establishing peace. Asked why he was motivated to enter the legal field, Mr. Davide explained that since his childhood, his family experienced contempt from others for being poor, and this had made a strong impression on him. He keenly felt there was something wrong with a society that derides and discriminates against the disadvantaged. This led him to become a lawyer. Even though he had five children and a wife to feed, Mr. Davide would not accept money from his destitute clients; 60% of his work was pro bono.

Davide (h) Primer encuentro del señor Ikeda con el jefe de justicia Hilario Davide y su esposa, la doctora Virginia Perez-Davide, en Tokio (marzo de 2002) En la entrega de “El brillo de la vida” publicado el sábado en el Seikyo Shimbun , el presidente de la SGI, Daisaku Ikeda, escribe sobre los diálogos que mantuvo con el jefe de Justicia de la Corte Suprema de la República de Filipinas, Hilario G. Davide (h), en Tokio, en marzo de 2002. En sus reflexiones sobre el encuentro, el señor Ikeda escribe que se había sentido profundamente admirado por una costumbre que el juez había compartido con él.
