Paganini was the greatest violinist of his age, exercising a strong influence on the developing technique of violin-playing and, through his virtuosity on the instrument, on the ambitions of performers on other instruments. Born in Genoa in 1782, he studied there, at first with his father. He spent eight years, from 1801, at Lucca, later as solo violinist to the court of Napoleon's sister, installed there as ruler by her brother. From 1810 he travelled as a virtuoso, at first in Italy and then, from 1828, abroad, causing a sensation wherever he went, his phenomenal technique giving rise to rumours of diabolical assistance. His career went into partial decline from 1834, followed by a significant deterioration in health. He died in Nice in 1840.

Performer : Itzhak Perlman
The best of Paganini's Caprices. This is probably the most difficult violin composition ever. I have heard many violinists namely Midori, Ilya Kaler, and Michael Rabin playing Paganini's Caprices. But no one is simply compared to Perlman who brings the true mastery of the 24 Caprices. His technical perfection and musical personality would make Yngwie Malmsteen jealous.
The Best of Paganini
Performer : Arthur Grumiaux, Riccardo Castagnone, et al.
Ensemble : Monte Carlo Opera Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, et al.
Conductor : Piero Bellugi, Stanislaw Wislocki, et al.
This recording contains Paganini's 6 violin concerti, I Palpiti, Caprice n.13, n.20, and n.24, Le Streghe, and Moto Perpetuo Op. 11. In my personal opinion, I would love Salvatore Accardo performing Paganini's violin concerti, but after hearing Szeryng and Grumiaux performing the concerto n.3 and .4 makes this recording equally indispensable.
