Sein Schwager hat ihm in Dießen-Sankt Georgen ein Haus aus dem Jahre 1930 umgebaut und modernisiert. "Was mir diese meine enge und weitere Heimat gegeben hat, ist eingegangen in meine Werke und ist mir diesen über die Welt gegangen, um dort nicht zuletzt von meiner Heimat Zeugnis abzulegen." "Wie ein alter Baum auf seinem Landsitz zusammenzubrechen, blieb ihm versagt. Aber der Ammersee hat ihn heimgeholt, die Kirche hat dem Weltkrieg fürstliche Heimstatt gewährt. Er ist in der Schmerzhaften Kapelle der Klosterkirche zu Andechs beigesetzt, die auf dem Mons Sacer über einem uralten Heiligtum errichtet ist. Orff, Carl verfaßte ein Schulwerk für die musikalische Früherziehung und wurde am 10. Juli 1895 in München geboren und starb am 29. März 1982 in München. Orff studierte an der Akademie der Tonkunst in München und wurde nach dem 1. Weltkrieg Korrepetitor und Kapellmeister in München, Mannheim und Darmstadt. 1924 war er Mitbegründer der Günther-Schule für Gymnastik, Tanz und Musik, seit 1950 Kompositionslehrer an der Münchner Musikhochschule. Orffs Bestreben ging dahin, die Musik zu aktivieren, d.h. aus dem passiven Hörer einen tätigen Mitwirkenden zu machen. Niedergelegt hat er die Ziele solcher Erziehungsarbeit in seinem Schulwerk (1930-1935, neu gefaßt 1950-1954): Erziehung der Kinder zu rhythmischen Bewußtsein durch Bewegung, Klatschen und Klopfen, Stampfen und Trommeln, Erziehung zu melodischen Bewußtsein durch allerlei kleine, vielfach selbst zu fertigende Instrumente. Später kommen melodische Übungen hinzu mit einfacher Begleitung, schwierigere Rhythmen, Ausweitungen bis zu 'konzertartigen' Stücken für Jugendliche. Rhythmisch bestimmt sind auch Orffs größere Werke, daher auch seine Vorliebe für ein umfangreiches 'Schlagzeug-Orchester'..

It is the first of a trilogy that also included Catulli Carmina and Triunfo de Aphrodite, which reflected his interest in Medieval German poetry. While "modern" in some of his compositional techniques, Orff in the trilogy is able to capture the spirit of the Medieval period with infectious rhythms and easy tonalities. The Medieval poems written in an early form of German and in Latin were often racy, but without descending into smut for smut's sake. In pedagogical circles he is probably best remembered for his Schulwerk (1930-35), translated into English as his Music for Children. Its simple musical instrumentation allowed even untutored child musicians to perform the piece with relative ease. Much of his life Orff worked with children, using music as an educational tool. Both melody and rhythm are often determined by the words, in either the German or English production. Shop Carl Orff, who will always remain an inseparable part of the history of STUDIO 49 , told about his first experience with a xylophone in his speech given at the dedication ceremonies for STUDIO 49's new factory. He described how he received a present from some friends of a simple African instrument which had been delivered by a sailor from the Cameroons. It was a kind of xylophone built on a small rectangular box that still had the words "10000 Bretterstifte" (wooden pegs) printed on it. The instrument had twelve bars tied together with string and attached to the open side of the box. It was played with one mallet, and according to Carl Orff had an amazingly good sound. In 1924, Carl Orff and Dorothee Gunther founded the Guntherschule for gymnastics, music, and dance in Munich to explore and teach new relationships between movement and music. Orff insisted the students should accompany their movements and dance with their own improvisations, and he introduced a great variety of percussion instruments which enabled them to accomplish this. Some of the most successful improvisations produced by the Guntherschule were recorded and transcribed in standard notation. In 1928, Carl Orff and his friend, Karl Maendler, a celebrated harpsichord maker, built the first xylophones based on the melodic barred instruments of the Indonesian gamelan. These instruments became indispensable for teaching at the Guntherschule and for the development of Orff's "Schulwerk."

Orff believed that any child regardless of talent, cultural milieu, or physical constraint could partake of the joys of playing music with little or no traditional training. Perhaps best known as the composer of the scenic oratorio, Carmina Burana (1937), Orff had long been a proponent of alternative music instruction.
