Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
A From that time on, young Mozart was constantly performing and writing music. He was the toast of Austria, and gave many concerts of prepared works and improvisation. Wherever he appeared, people gaped in awe at his divine gifts. By his early teens, he had mastered the piano, violin and harpsichord, and was writing keyboard pieces, oratorios, symphonies and operas. His first major opera seria, Mitridate , was performed in Milan in 1770 (when he was still only fourteen!), to such unqualified raves that critics compared him to Handel. At fifteen, Mozart was installed as the concertmaster in the orchestra of the Archbishop of Salzburg. Things did not go very well; Mozart didn't get along with the Archbishop, and relations deteriorated to the point where, in 1781, he quit this lofty position and headed for Vienna - quite against his father's wishes. Now a grown man, Mozart initially thrived in Vienna. He was in great demand as a performer and composition teacher, and his first opera

In recent years, Mozart's fame has reached new heights on the popularity of the film Amadeus , based on the play by Peter Shaffer. Although it is true that this film is largely fictional (the much-hyped rivalry with Court Composer Antonio Salieri, Mozart's method of composition, and his death, for example), the recent resurgence of Mozart's music as a result is certainly an end which justifies any means. This site contains a biography of Mozart, a complete Köchel listing of his works, a discussion
of the movie Amadeus , and an analysis of the Requiem Mass . Please feel free to email me

This Many People Have Visited These Halls of Musicality: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in the year 1756 in Salzburg, Austria. He was one of the truly great composers of all time, according to one of the wisest men of all time, Albert Einstein, who said "Mozart was the greatest composer of all." Wolfgang was the son of Leopold Mozart, an esteemed composer and violinist in his day. The entire Mozart family possessed a great musical talent. Wolfgang, his father Leopold, and his loving sister Nannerl all were respected musicians in their specific genre.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was considered the prodigal child of music due to his early start in composition. He first started to compose before he was five, and he performed with his sister at the court of Empress Maria Theresa at age six. At age seven, Leopold organized a tour that included Paris, London, and Munich. By age 13, Mozart had written sonatas, concertos, symphonies, operas, and religious works that turned the heads of many great composers who were much his senior. An astonishing fact reveals that Mozart spent more than 14 of his 36 years alive on the road performing and improvising with his well developed skills.

76. The Music Of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
A brief biography of wolfgang amadeus mozart, listing his major compositions and giving insights into his personality. by Charles K. Moss, MM.Ed., M.Mus.
http://www.carolinaclassical.com/articles/mozart.html
by Charles K. Moss, M.M.Ed., M.Mus.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s name is familiar even to people who know little or none of his music. However, Mozart’s fame is based on two different frames of reference: firstly, being the most famous child prodigy in music history (as both a performer and a composer) and secondly, his unquestioned brilliance as an adult composer of Classical symphonies, operas, chamber music, sonatas, church music, and concerti for various instruments.
Just days before his fifth birthday, Mozart played a complete piano piece for the first time in his life. His father proudly recorded that it took him half an hour to learn it. He learned another piece a month later, and another a month after that. The next piece he learned he wrote himselfwell, maybe! Musical scholars have long questioned the degree to which the child Mozart actually composed at age five. His father, Leopold, who was a noted composer himself, is believed to have greatly "helped" the child with his early compositions.
Under the scrutiny of modern understanding about the abstract nature of music reading and learning musical notation, it seems doubtful that Wolfgang actually composed much of these early works that are now "clumped" together in Köchel’s catalog of the composer’s works as Opus 1 or K. 1. When Mozart actually began to compose, is not really a matter of great importance, for he was truly a child prodigy as a performer at the keyboard and equally on the violin. And as a teenager onwards, his compositions rank among the greatest works ever penned by a musician, and there is no doubt that these works are genuinely his own.
