Takana on peräti kaksi pitkää ja suurelta osin tarpeetonta vuotta Ranskassa. Pitkästyminen, rahanpuute, epätietoisuus tulevaisuudesta, ja vähän väliä iskevä rintatauti ja katarri vaivasivat miestä. Niiden välillä oli maanisempia levottomuuden kausia. Mitä Kraus oikein teki Pariisissa? Hän kävi oopperassa ja konserteissa, luki librettoja ja sävelsi - tietenkin - mutta eli myös ilmeisen täysillä seuraelämässä. Siitä hän ei paljon kerro, vihjaileepa vain kaikenlaisista "tyhmyyksistä" ja "ajan nopeasta kulumisesta", kun on puhe kuukausien tauosta kirjeenvaihdossa. Kraus tietenkin totteli. Hän saapui Grazin ja Triesten kautta Veneziaan marraskuun puolivälissä 1783. Ennen kuin jätämme Wienin, on kuitenkin kerrottava, että Krausilta jäi tuohon kaupunkiin romanttisen haaveellinen ystävyyssuhde valistuneen musiikinharrastajan Johann Samuel Liedemann in kanssa. The fountain is a donation of a descendant of the Kraus family. From the transverse flute of the bronze figure the water gushes merrily into the basin. Behind it a farmstead built on the town wall was converted as part of the town redevelopment plan into pretty new dwellings in half-timbered style. A walk further down the Grabenweg ("ditch way" - despite it is actually on the old rampart before the ditch) provides also special experiences. Remainders of the town wall, romantic yards, quiet places and idyllic gardens can be found. The numerous cast-iron lamps along the way were reconstructed according to the original plans of the old Buchen gas lamps. Kraus’s career as a composer was relatively brief - probably little more than 15 years - but his mature works have a complexity expressive intensity which is quite unique. Jospeh Martin Kraus (English version comming) Joseph Martin Kraus, född 20 juni 1756i Tyskland. Utbildades i Mannheim i jesuitskolan och vid stadens musikgymnasium. Under sin studie tid ägnad han sig åt flitigt komponerande. En svensk studie kamrat i Göttingen, Carl Strindberg, rekommenderade honom att pröva lyckan i Stockholm där operan under Gustav III:s tid hade en blomstringstid. 1778 flyttade Joseph till Sverige och 1781 fick han uppföra entaktsoperan Proserpin på Ulriksdal. 1782-1787 genomförde Joseph på statens bekostnad en studie resa i Tyskland, Wien, Italien, Paris och England. Gluck och Hayden var några av de personer som Joseph gjorde sig bekant med under sin resa. Under de sista åren arbetade Jospeh tillsammans med bl. a Bellman, Wikmanson och Frigel. Troligen hjälpte Joseph till med harmoniseringen av Bellmans sista epistlar och sånger. 15 december 1792 avled en av den gustavianska epokens mest begåvade tonsättare.

He was born in the same year as Mozart in Miltenburg am Main in central Germany. His early musical education was in Buchen im Odenwald, and from 1768 to 1773 he studied at Mannheim and published a collection of poems. From 1773 he studied philosophy and law, and published a drama and two oratorios, Die Gerburt Jesu and Der Tod Jesu Sturm und Drang literary circle, publishing a treatise on music; then he was persuaded by a fellow student to devote his life to music and to seek his fortunes in Sweden at the court of Gustav III.
